Orantes path to the finals was much smoother and easier than Dibbs. The 28 year old spaniard lost Only one set in the tournament. Dibbs also had to face three other seeded players beating no. 15 Bob Lutz in the third round no. 5 Dick Stockton and no. 8 Wojtek Fibak of Poland in the Semi finals. Orantes went against Only one seeded player before meeting Dibbs. He beat no. 16 Jaime Fillol of Chile 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, monday in the semifinals.
