Scheckter s Wolf was More than two Miles behind Andretti when the american pulled his Lotus into the pits with a blown engine. Only James Hunt of Britain had challenged Andretti until Andretti dropped out. Patrick Degailler of France was second in his Tyro and Jochen Maas of Germany driving a Mclaren was third. Hunt s Mclaren was eliminated on the 61st Lap of the 80-Lap race when he was knocked off the track by his teammate Maas. Alan Jones of Australia was fourth in a Shadow followed by Patrick Tam Bay of France in an Ensign. Vittorio Brambilo of Italy was sixth in his Surtees even though he was not running at the Check ered Flag. The race had belonged to Andretti from the Start until the engine of his Lotus blew with Victory in sight. The american Ace had won four grand prix events this year More than any other Driver. Hunt in his Mclaren and Andretti were far ahead of the Park until the engine fail ure. Andretti was two Miles ahead of Scheckter when the american s engine died in a Cloud of smoke. This is motor racing said Scheckter. This was How we won at Argentina to open the season. Parsons put his Chevrolet in front of the pack in Lap 1151 of the 334-Lap event at the Charlotte motor Speedway and moved to a 24-second Lead Over Yarborough. He was within 12 seconds of lapping Yarborough s Chevrolet when he ran out of Gas going into the first turn on Lap 287 the Lap in which he planned to make a pit Stop. Yarborough moved ahead of him and pulled into the pit the next time around taking the Lead. Parsons coasted around the 1.5-mile track and was about six seconds behind Yarborough after his pit Stop with just Over 50 Miles to go. Parsons quickly made up ground As he gained about three tenths of a second on Yarborough each Lap and moved Back in front on Lap 297. Parsons finished 19.2 seconds ahead of Yarborough. Yarborough Winner of nine races this season finished second and was the Only Driver in the same Lap As Parsons at the finish. David Pearson who started on the pole finished third with his Mercury just ahead of buddy Baker s Ford. Alcott captures Lyga classic by 5 shots for first 77 Victory Crosby Tex. Up Amy Alcott who led since the first Day fired a final round score of two under Par 70 sunday to win the $50,000 Lyga classic Golf tournament by five strokes her first Victory of the 1977 tour. Alcott finished with a 54-Hole total of 208, eight under Par in the final Domestic ladies tournament of the season. Only two tournaments in the far East remain. I m very pleased with the entire week Alcott said after finishing the new port country club course. I played very consistently and played under Par and that s the name of the game. This Means More to me than you know winning this championship Alcott from Santa Monica calif., earned $7,500 for the Victory moving her into 15th on the 1977 winnings list. The race was slowed Only 18 laps by four caution flags and was relatively trouble free although it was delayed an hour and a half because of Earl morning rain. Richard Petty in second place to Yarbo rough in the Winston cup Point standings was leading the race when a Shock absorber broke on Lap 76. Repairs were made and he reentered the race 34 laps later but Only for a Brief period before the Shock broke again. When the Shock broke initially coming out of the fourth turn Petty slowed his car quickly causing Pearson and Bobby Alii son to collide and spin Down the front stretch. Pearson lost a Lap while repairs were made and never got Back in the same Lap As the leaders. Bobby Allison had to leave the race just before the 200-Lap Mark while running sixth because of an Oil leak. Donnie Allison his brother put his Chevrolet in front of the Field on the third Lap and led until the 27th Lap before he was knocked out of the race with a cracked Cyl Inder head. Parsons led five times for 250 laps. There were 18 Lead changes among seven Drivers up 10-09 06 07 Ped Mcaa track championships Champaign 111. It was unfortunate but i honestly think it was his Hunt s mistake not  Hunt the 1976 world driving Champion was fined $2,750 by stewards of the race $2,000 of it for striking a track marshal. The briton had punched the marshal who tried to restrain him As Hunt stood at the Side of the track and Shook his fist in anger at Maas As his teammate drove by. The Well meaning mass had just knocked Hunt out of the race. After track workers freed him from Hiscar s wreckage Hunt s first reaction was to threaten  was also fined $750 for walking too close to the track on his Way Back to the pits from the Accident and crossing the track. Sweden s Ronnie Peterson also was fined $500 for walking along the track Inan unsafe manner after his car dropped out. The results 1.
