Johnson managed to gain Redskin cheerleaders to lose Bare skin look Washington a the Washington Redskin ettes Are going to cover up their Bare backs and bellies. The Washington redskins cheerleaders shocked the nation s capital a week ago when they unveiled their new uniforms once designed to compete with the women on the sidelines of other teams in the National football league. We re not trying to sell a sex show said Joel Margolis redskins assistant general manager who is in charge of the halftime show. Their uniforms will look the Way they when the 36 redskins cheerleaders strutted out onto the Field two sundays ago they wore Large capes which then were dropped at Midfield to reveal their new. Uniforms with the Bare backs plunging necklines and Diamond shaped cutouts across their midriffs Baring their navels. The crowd gave them whistles and a huge cheer. However the new uniforms apparently did t please everyone present including some fans redskins coach Jack Pardee and club president Edward Bennett Wil Liams. Pardee was quoted publicly that he considered All scantily Clad High prancing sideline dolls in very poor taste whether it s at a football game or any other i m not a big cheerleader fan to begin with said Pardee. I like football for the Kings get Bruins a i Ward los Angeles a the los an Geles Kings acquired defens Eman Doug Halward from the Boston Bruins for future football part of it. I know All the nil teams have gone in big for the big cheer Leader productions but i think it s unnecessary not Only for the redskins but for anyone Williams did t say anything publicly but it was understood that he made it Clear in no Uncertain terms that he wanted to see some changes made. In fact one redskins fan Marilyn Fausnight wrote a letter to Williams after the game in which she said i question Why a person cannot be retained who has the Talent to design a sexy and Chic outfit for our Redskin cheerleaders. The coup de Grace is the Diamond shaped Navel exposed cutout. Navels come in All shapes and sizes none of which Are particularly attractive in my Estima Tion. It s rather like elbows we All have a set but who wishes to direct blatant Atten Tion to a Bunch of folds of skin. I would forego naval exposure and bring Back the Good old fashioned cleavage she re plied. In a letter to Fausnight Williams wrote i share your feeling that the new uni forms of the Redskin ettes Are most inappropriate and have directed that they be Margolis explained that the uniforms arrived Only Ivy hours before the last game and the cheerleaders did t have time to make the proper alterations. He also said the cheerleaders have three different sets of uniforms and May alternate them. One thing for sure the Bare Navel is out. The color of the costume will be the same and the Basic design will be the same. However the opening in the Middle will be diffused he said. Patriot halfback Andy Johnson the game s leading rusher with 109 Yards on 27 carries had Given new England a 6-0 first Quarter Lead on a one Yard run but Smith missed what appeared to be a key extra Point his first failure after 45 successful conversions dating Back to 1976. The Colts capitalized in the fourth Quarter on new England turnovers As Black Wood recovered Johnson s Fumble leading to Washington s halfback option pass to Carr and linebacker de Simonini set up the 67-Yard score from Troup to Carr with a diving interception. Grogan s passing was woeful for the first three quarters except for his touch Down pass to Morgan As the wide receiver left the Baltimore defense far behind. But Grogan who was 3-for-15 at one Point came alive during the comeback with key completions to Rookie Carlos pen Newell that set up the 4-Yard touchdown run and the bomb to Morgan which gave new England its last Chance. In allowing Mccourt to stay in Detroit instead of reporting to the los Angeles Kings . District judge Robert Demas Cio ruled that a league Rule governing free agents was an illegal restraint of Trade. The Rule allowed an nil arbiter to award Mccourt to the Kings As compensation for Detroit s signing of free agent goaltender Rogie Vachon. Vachon became a free agent after play ing out his option with the Kings last sea son. Demascio s ruling stemmed from my court s lawsuit against the Kings the wings and the National hockey league players association seeking to overturn the arbiter s decision. The five count complaint alleged that the three violated antitrust Laws and at tempted to restrain Trade restrain employment breached his contract with de troit and abused arbitration procedures in agreeing to the compensation provisions of the nil. When reached at his parents Home in Falconbridge Ontario the 21-year-old my court said he was delighted with the Deci Sion and would report to the wings train ing Camp in Kalamazoo late tuesday. I feel great he said. I was Happy in Detroit. I wanted to play there and i just went about doing so. It was t that i did t want to go to la it was just More or less that i wanted to stay in Detroit. I like it. I thought that the fans treated me Well. I thought that the management treated me Mccourt s attorney Brian Smith insisted although the judge ruled Only on the re quest for a temporary restraining order the decision would apply to All league free agents. This will apply to All hockey players he said. This is a landmark a Date for the hearing on the full lawsuit which could shake the foundations of professional sports if upheld was not set. In agreeing to the injunction Demascio cited a suit filed by former Baltimore Colt player John Mackey against the National football league. That suit resulted in a court ruling against the so called Rozelle Rule. The Rule imposed similar penalties. On teams which signed free agents. Like the Rozelie Rule Demascio said the nil s bylaw 9a applies to All players without regard to their status or ability. It is More anti competitive than the Rozelle he disagreed with the Kings contentions that the Rule was a Good one was fairly applied by the arbiter and was Neces sary to protect their financial interests. He determined there was not enough evidence to uphold the Kings arguments that without Mccourt the team franchise was damaged reputation eroded and ticket sales decreased by $300,000. If 9a is necessary to protect Gate receipts Why then is it necessary to be applied to All players Demascio asked. Instead the Rule discourages nil Mem Ber clubs from seeking to sign free agents depresses player salaries and robs them of the Opportunity to put their talents on the free Market Demascio said.
