Should the intercepted plane require another Airport perhaps one with longer runways it can reject the Landing instruction by flying Over the Airport but raising its Landing gear and then circling the Field. Should an intercepted aircraft refuse to acknowledge a command from the intercept or although Tho interception guidelines do not address the Issue the flight Leader could fire across the nose of the suspect aircraft to warn the Pilot and As a last resort shoot it Down. Lehman declined to say if the f-14s would have downed the 737 had the egyptian Pilot refused to comply and president Reagan did likewise saying Only it is something they can go to bed  . Fighter pilots never endangered an egyptian jetliner carrying palestinian hijackers by forcing it to land in Italy said Lehman. You can be sure that there was nothing that would have caused any Llight danger or instability Lehman said. They made it very Clear what the intention  Lehman s news conference at the Pensacola naval air station in Florida was interrupted by a Call from president Ronald Reagan who Lehman said told him to congratulate the Home of naval aviation for its part in the capture of the hijackers.
