Her dramatic description of the final seconds of flight aboard the Delta airlines i.-i011 and terror of the crash during an approach to the Dallas fort Worth Airport was detailed thursday in new documents released by the National transportation safety Board. Thirty four of the people aboard the jetliner Many in a rear Section that had broken away from the rest of the plane survived the crash although three died on the Way to the Hospital and four others died later of their injuries. The documents also confirmed that the Jet encountered wind Shear which investigators shortly after the crash had speculated was the cause of the disaster an analysis of the plane s flight recorder showed the jetliner flew into an area of severe Down Low of wind for about 20 seconds followed by rapid changes in. Wind direction and Speed just before it crashed one report concluded. Chavis 29, was among three flight attendants who escaped the Accident. Her description to investigators of the moments before and after the crash provide a glimpse of what the survivors faced. She and another night attendant were interviewed by Nosb investigators a Day after the crash. It had been her first trip after a two week Honey Moon and she was on a rear facing jump Seal six rows from the rear of the Cabin of the wide body Lockheed Airliner. The next thing 1 knew we hit something Chavis recalled. "1 thought it was a by that time the plane was skipping across a Field its Landing gear touching Down at last twice As the Pilot struggled to again get airborne. Then the plane according to the Nosb investigators crossed a Highway and its left engine struck a car sending it careening out of control. I was facing Al and 1 Felt us going forwards. The grass and sky and things were going by in the opposite direction. My arms were completely flailing my legs were flailing. 1 had no control Over my body the flight attendant recalled. Strapped in her seat by a Bell and shoulder harness and trying to hold onto anything she could reach she fought to get away from All the things that were flying suddenly there was a final Jolt As the out of control Jelliner struck a water Tower. As she briefly turned her head a flame Rushing from the front of the Cabin singed her Hail. Although there was smoke and the smell of Jel fuel in the air she recalled no other flames. By then the aircraft had broken in two. Leaving the rear Cabin Section largely intact and separate from the rest of the plane. And there was momentary quiet she recalled. We stopped. I was hanging upside Down from my scat Belt. The whole fuselage on the left Side of the air plane was the survivors in the rear Section of the aircraft began scurrying out of the aircraft some sliding crawling or jumping Down open areas where sections of the fuselage had been ripped apart. Chavis recalled. She said she was the last to leave except for one Man hanging from his seat upside Down Forward from where she was and too far to reach. The smell of fuel was on her uniform and on her skin and she noticed a 15-foot drop to the ground where she could Sec jagged pieces of the plane and bits and pieces of things burning Here and there she finally decided to crawl out of the wreckage.
