Kimball who opened the doors of the mormon Church to Black men but steadfastly opposed the equal rights Amend ment and giving the Church s Priesthood to women is dead. He was 90. Kimball died at 10 08 . Tuesday in his hotel Utah apartment said Church spokesman Don Lefevre. He was apparently with his wife Camille and a nurse at the time of his death Lefvre said. The i2lh religious Leader of the world s 5.8 million mormons ended the Church s 140-year-old policy of racial discrimination against Black men in 1978. He did not speak at recent Church conferences. Church tradition starting with the selection of Brig Ham Young in 1847 is followed Kimball s successor will be Benson 86, who has been a mormon apostle for 40 years.
