I wonder if they think about genes when things go right. No one knows for sure to what extent a child s intelligence disposition or tempera ment is inherited but this boy has certainly turned out Well. Dear Ann Landers a while Back you said anyone who reads my column Over a period of years is sure to see  Well 1 certainly saw myself not Long ago and i cannot rest until 1 speak my piece. I Hope and Pray that the woman who was obsessed with the teen age boy a Friend of her daughter takes your advice and drops that kid at once. Nine years ago i became involved with an 18-year-old boy. 1 was 35, the Mother of three children. Like a fool i was Nat tired by his attention and he made me feel Young. We thought nobody knew but the whole town was talking. Promotion minded e-5 advised to try combat arms it is re enlistment time again. Could someone Tell me what i should do i am an e-5. I have almost 11 years Active duty. 1 have been in the military occupational specially mos 36h20 since september 1981, and the cutoff scores have not dropped Low enough for me to get promoted to e-6 or anyone else in my mos that i know of. Before the new promotion system i had As High As 868 Points but no drop below that. My re enlistment no has been very patient with me in trying to decide what to do. She put my name into the computer to see what the army had to offer me. These arc my options 1. Re up for present duty assignment. 2. Re up for a stateside assignment. 3. Re up for combat arms. There is no offer of a different mos other than combat arms. Now As far As re enlisting for my present mos i have been told repeatedly that the army is replacing military personnel with civilian personnel at All Telephone exchanges in the army that this mos is balanced and that is Why there have not been Many promotions to e-6. That is Why the army did not offer another mos other than combat arms. So everyone says if you want to get promoted bad enough go into combat  then they say if you do you must be  in the first six years i was a 31 a and spent plenty of time in the Field. I am not too crazy about the Field. But it seems to me the army is pushing people in this mos toward combat arms. So Tell me what i am supposed to do in a combat arms mos suppose i make e-6 shortly after obtaining an mos in combat arms. Tell me what e-5 and below wants to work for a supervisor who knows very Little about his Job assuming i go to a school to learn the Job. School teaches Only the basics. You need that experience to be a Good Leader. Then there arc the officers and senior cos in the unit. Would they Trust you with a Mission knowing you have Only been school trained that your knowledge of the Job is the same As a new recruit in your unit i think not now As far As my present status in my mos i am a High school graduate a Ploc Honor graduate and a Basic technical course Honor graduate. I have a it score High enough for any mos and High set scores As Well As High Eer reports. As Long As i can remember i have wanted to work with telephones. I finally have this Opportunity but can t get promoted. In today s army it is move up or move out. If someone could help me in this Situa Tion it would be deeply appreciated. Sol. A greater emphasis has been placed on the support and participation of inter base sports programs rather than the intended Mission itself. I believe this to be wrong and especially wrong when organizations within the air Force deviate from Mission requirements in order to supplement sports activities. Besides what is the determining Factor that gives inter base sports precedence Over other extra activities such As education and sports not supported by the air Force. Every supervisor has been delegated the authority to allow their people to participate in sports activities. They know their Mission and what it lakes to accomplish that Mission. In Many cases unities Are heir Best workers and make up any missed duty Lime by working weekends or extended duty hours during Ibe week.
