I predicted that the Feller from the Cler Gyman who was of pout to newer girl and ring bearer at weddings would pro duct flood of an jury duty the opposite upper red. Tike took from new or leans when i has 3 my aunt chose me to be her Flower girl i was a shy my who had never left my Mother s Side. At the rehearsal i was uncooperative terrified and would t follow instructions. Everyone said i was Normal and i would be just Fine at Che wedding. Well when the Cere Mony be an i freaked Oul and refined to Budge Wilhauk my Mommy. I began to Wail in a voice thai was drowning out the Organ music so they decided Mommy should walk with me holding my hand. Mommy was by months pregnant. She was furious with me this happened 20 years ago and i still remember it As the worst Nightmare of my life. From fort Worth 1 say amen to the Clergyman s statement that ring bearers and Flower girls should be scrapped. As a professional photographer who has worked Many wed dings i can attest la the fact that Little kids Don t belong in the wedding party. They become impatient during group photo ses Sions and can be very disruptive. Children should be permitted to be children and not forced into roles thai demand adult patience. From Atlanta count me among those who vote against Flower girls and ring bearers. I have worked for a Fine catering service for Sev eral years and seen Loo Many Beautiful weddings ruined by Little tykes who Are exhausted untie too much pressure and should be Home in bed. From Garden City . I did t want a Flower girl Bat my Mother in Law insisted that her Niece be in the wedding parly. The child was not yet 3, and i just knew it would be a. Disaster. Sure enough she wet her pants Halfway Down the Aisie and ran screaming to her Nanny who was standing in the Back of the Church. It ruined my special Day. That s people talked about for two weeks. No City please As a member of the clergy i cheered when i read the idler from the minister in Rochester minn., who spoke out against children participating in the nuptials. I wanted to Shoul it to the world of brides to be and print it in my Church bulletin. At a rehearsal recently the Little ring bearer cried and refused to walk Down the Nisle. Several people pleaded with slim but he kept repeating i Don t want to. I tried to persuade the lad but failed. 1 then suggested to the child s parents that per hapa the youngster should be excused. They would t hear of it. The next Day he began to act up in front of the Church swinging at people who tried to Calm him. Once inside he continued to behave in an unruly fashion. He acc Dently knocked Over one of the candles attached to the front Pew. The Glass Coyer in was shattered and the Idle Guled in Vuil a us Gjini .3 j Afelt Rcd Glass a screaming child and angry spec gators. Please no names or City. I Haw site these people. Thanks for he ear Ann i be been Hal me this in for too Long. Cd twi America sad Luau reminder All letter to the editor Wist Conlan suggestions for changes in my duty get answers i m writing this letter to say s do All we can do for the military police so that they can be All that hey can Many people Are unaware of he physical emotional and psychological stress the maps endure in performance of their duties. We can help reduce this stress through changes. The first area we can change is the 12 hour shift schedule. This shift is not Only in motivating but it also causes a physical and emotional Strain an the my and on his her family. Let s face the facts. By the time an my hoi finished a 12-hour shift it has become a 14-hour shift due to reporting an hour Early to draw weapons turning in weapons at the end of a shift and performing physical training. This leaves an my with 10 hours to eat Shower sleep prepare a uni form and arrive on time for the next 12 hour shift. An my on this Type of shift has no time for his her family no time to perform other responsibilities such As mowing the grass around his her quarters and no Lime to attend College courses. Let s change the 12-hour shift to an eight hour shift. Let s make sure that the maps who participate in company athletics do so on their off duty time so us not to create a shortage of personnel nor make the other maps work longer hours to make up for the s also make sure that the maps Are getting their Days off hat they deserve by posting a duly schedule at least seven Days prior to the actual duty. The second area we can change is the number of Days an my works a shift. An my who works from a Day shift for two week to a swing shift for two weeks then to a mid shift for two week finds that the constant change is psychologically and physically exhausting. Just As an my be comes accustomed to sleeping during the Day the deep pattern changes and the my must get accustomed to sleeping at night. In addition a shift that changes every two weeks does not give an my the Opportunity to attend College courses. Let s change the two week shift to an eight week shift thereby reducing the stress of con stantly changing shifts and enabling maps to attend College courses. Finally i d like to say s keep those pro motion Points Down so the maps who deserve to be promoted can be promoted. If Here is a True shortage of maps s keep die ones we have by doing All we can do for them so they can be All that they can be for us. Spec. 4 Agustin Otan Wiesbaden Germany editor s. Obviously any prolonged shift work is stressful and has an Adverse Impact on morale ii is unfortunate hat the role of the military police is a 24-hour-a-Day, a ten Job but it has to by done. There Are Many jobs in the army a Well As the chilian Enil Rosment i a i follow this routine. Regarding your civilian education Yon should consult your local education Center and pc if there Are Ullern tithes available le., correspondence course or some col lege programs Hal would enable you to pursue a College degree White working a 24-hour to Hafl configuration. Again your unit commander can Best determine changes thai can help your situation. Unfortunately you May Bare to Wall until you Are in duly position that would allow you to attend College counts at night or on a More regular basis. Reference your comment on keeping promotion Points Down this area is con trolled by the department of he army. Monthly promotion Point cutoff scares Are determined by Aqda for the needs of the army by Grade and military occupational specially. The second reply is front a col. Linda l Norman commander 709ih military police flu we Hare the writer s concern. The fact is that military police personnel by virtue of their Mission and specialized training Are the principal assets of military Community commanders in execution of i Clr primary responsibility of Security of our soldiers family members and facilities in Europe. This is a heavy Burden in flew of the number of military police from the 7091 h my in supporting eight of the 10 v corps military communities. Be assured Hal every consideration is being Given to addressing Ibe issues you deathbed while the writer s solutions and recommended changes Are Well taken they in pc been Dos protein in though and practice. Chen our present commitments the application of 12-hour shifts u the Only in which military police can be Given any Day off whatever. Consider the following example. If five individual police patrols Are required on a 24-hour-a-Day basis in a particular Loca Tion it is necessary to commit 10 people to this daily Effort if you hate established 12-hour shifts the change to eight hour shifts ups the personnel commitment to is for the 24-hour period an increase of 33 percent. You can readily see Hal the 12-hour shift though admittedly taxing. Is a method of reducing manpower required and allowing both Days off and time for mandatory training requirements. The writer s suggestion to lengthen inc period Between Shefl rotations is not with out Merit but Bra an inherent disadvantage. Just As we enhance the personal lives of those working Ibe shifts that Are Condu Che to education and family involvement we freeze Ibe remainder of our person Nel on less desirable shifts for longer Peri ods of time. We have found in Ibe past that the stress of spending six la eight coir Eduthe weeks on the graveyard shift exceeds the stress of the two week changes. As l competitor the battalion plays to win we hate the Way in Usa eur my battalion Competition and will continue to support sports Tenta. We do in peace As we will do in a War. Fight a team to win. Emphasis on ibis program has been reduced until needed personnel strength improves. The writer s concern for Early posting of duly schedules and adherence to those schedules is reciprocated by the Chain of command in this battalion. As a Milter of policy duly rosters Are posted 10 Days in Advance and changes Are not authorized below the platoon sergeant level. Other Ihan medical or pc Raoul emergencies the Only changes of Rosier result from unexpected commitments and the Impact of these has been minimized by util ipalion of company and in nation sup port personnel As fillers. We Hope to further East Ibe Burden of our extended police commitments through higher Headquarters initiatives to attach additional my until la Usa eur and to allow our units to reach stat us. In response to the writer s question re Garding promotion i would like to see All Rald lers who Are deserving rewarded with promotion but the reality of the is Luton dictates otherwise. In a in pcs and occupational special ties enlisted and officer there u i set number of personnel thai my hold particular rank Al any one time. 9sb b presently balanced military occupational specially for Ibe grades of is and e-6, meaning Ibe Point totals for promotion will continue to Rise until there is sufficient at Trellon of those ranks to allow for More promotions to occur. To All renders t request thai you Lake the comments of the writer to heart i i have. Recognize the sacrifices hit Are being made on your behalf by military police unit police and other soldiers who have been Given the duty of ensuring the safety of your Homes and workplace. The Job is not easy and the circumstances Are far from fair but the fines soldiers in the army ire doing it and doing ii in an outstanding manner. Take some Lime to show your appreciation.
