European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - February 8, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Saturday february. 1988 stars and stripes letters Many stereo accessories unneeded writer says have you spent any greenbacks on audio equipment lately Here s a letter from one who has but found the advice from some audio manufacturer representatives close to ridiculous. These representatives along with some military Community magazines tend to encourage the Purchase of different accessory components to improve the sound image. . Mizilar equalizer reverb amplifier and expander you la easily isly a must with any Are added i enhancer Are obviously i serious i i Buff. And to Hook it All up to your audio sys tem you probably need a program route selector unit As Well. Sounds like the ultimate sound system right i Don t know whether to laugh or cry let me ask you Why do you spend a Small Fortune on your audio system for those answering to get the most knobs switches and Light emitting diodes i can skip to the next letter. For those who an swered so that i can listen to a realistic reproduction of my favorite music please read on. Have you Ever participated in the game i be got a secret it you have you la know that As the secret passes from one person to the next it becomes distorted. Depending on the number of people and their abilities to correctly retell the secret it will be More or less unrecognizable when the last person presents his version to the audience. Believe me this holds True not Only with i be got a secret but also with the reproduction of sound. The More components and wires read filters an audio signal posses through the More the signal will be altered. Why is it that the . Military audio Market overseas is so heavily dominated by components loaded with electronic gadgetry a Jungle of flashing lights needless features and a Button for every dime con fuses the uninitiated audio customer including the author at his first encounter with this Market. The reason for this is simple these products Are specially made for this Market. They just won t sell in most other audio markets. Given a Strong Dollar and Low profits the . Military Market offers service members their dream audio video system at very favourable prices. It s just too sad to see that Many of these dream a a systems Are electronic monsters More capable of impressing thy neighbor than producing life like sound. Most components offering everything in features do not offer the sound Quality of More simplistically designed similarly priced components. If these have everything components receive favourable comments they Are prob ably from a Magazine that also rates Cam eras and Tours travel or from a House hold electronics representative. The Way to go first omit All the accessory components mentioned above. Next spend the Money you be saved by buying much better speakers than planned a More simplistic higher Quality amplifier and a stack of discs for your compel disc or record player. You la hear the difference actually the easiest approach to achieve True High Fidelity sound in your Home is this i compact disc player i Power amplifier with volume Knob if the cd has t one i set of speakers then just add sensible components As you like preamplifier and tuner cassette deck and record player but please no sound processors. Representatives for household stereo manufacturers Aren t Likely to agree arguing for example that you need an equalizer to compensate for different room acoustics. If you omit the equalizer you can afford much better speakers right so Don t furn ish your listening room by placing these speakers where there s leftover space. Place them where they sound Best then furnish accordingly. Result you won t have to compensate for anything at All which is How it should be. My Hope is that More people will join the ranks of those who prefer lifelike music re production instead of an impressive but tiring sound blending. Stellar Ahnell. Tron Behn Norway postal complaint gets response i would like to ask All the individuals in the Usa eur postal services to treat each package As their own. I realize it recently was a hectic and Busy time for you but i d rather my packages go out later intact than sooner and roughly handled. Recently i received a Christmas package from the states. My father had a Ceramic figurine that we All treasured and asked for when he passed away. My sister received it and not having the Money to buy christinas gifts this year gave it to my Mother to give to us. It was packed in tissue paper and styrofoam arid placed in a Box. The Box was Kir rounded by three Teddy bears and a doll in a Box. Underneath was a packaged shirt. Needless to say it was Well packed and it was the Only thing broken in the whole smashed Box. I could claim it but it s Over 20 years old and will never receive its sentimental value. If i did claim it after depreciation it would t be Worth my time if i could find the original Price tag. This time it was my package next time it could be one of your own. Name and location withheld editor s note Sec. He said he d like to collect what i owed him. What was that i asked. A kiss he said. To make a Long Story Short we talked for about a week and decided to meet for a Quick lunch. When i saw him i almost flipped. He was drop dead Good looking and had a terrific smile. You can guess the Quick lunch ended in a Motel and we were there for five hours. When i got Home and started to fix sup per i Felt so ashamed i d like to have died. To make mailers worse my husband came Home Wilh a bouquet of red roses. The Guill is killing me but i m afraid if i confess in will ruin our marriage. My husband is very straight and would never forgive me for fooling around. He d throw it up to me for the Resl of my life. I need advice. Feeling Rotten ind. Dear adj confess to a Clergyman and vow never again to do anything so reckless and fool ish. Your Story is evidence that there is no such thing As a free lunch. Dear Ann i feel blessed because i can slay at Home with my children. My husband and i barely make ends meet but we believe my being Home is very important. My professional background is medical so i volunteered to help in the school clinic. I cannot Tell you How Many very sick children lie in thai clinic because they have working mothers who cannot or win nol pick them up when called. The school policy states Hal if a child is running a temperature we must phone the child s guardian and ask him or her to take the youngster Home. We have Only a four bed clinic and cannot use it As a baby silting service. I have been there when we have had six and seven sick kids whose parents would not come to get them. I called one Mother whose child was running a 102-Degrce temperature. Her response was Welt whal can i do about it the children Are not Only getting sick at school they Are being sent to school sick. My question is this if you Don t want to be bothered Why on Earth did you have children i realize there Are situations where mothers must work to put bread on the table because there is no other source of income but i beg of you. Please make arrangements for your children when they Are ill. Take care of your child if you can t stay at Home. Have that person s name on Ike child s clinic card so she May pick up the child when he is ill. Don t yell at the Clink worker. We Are donating our time to take care of your child while you make Money at your Job. There is nothing sadder than a sick child. Please Don t make him or her stay at school ill.
