Isaaf panel oks Amateur status for Gault Nehemiah Madrid Spain a the International Amateur athletics federation made a Deci Sive move Friday toward the reinstatement intrude and Field Competition including the olympic games of banned american hurdler Renaldo Nehemiah and Willie Gault. The 22-Membcr executive Council vote unanimously to change the Isaaf rules in order to allow the reinstatement of Nehe Miah and Gault who were banned after signing pro football contracts. Nehemiah plays for the san francisco49crs, and Gault for the Chicago bears. The decision of the Council virtually opened the Way for the return of Nehemiah and Gault to track and Field an Ian source confirmed. The change recommended by the Council will have to be approved at the Isaaf con Gress in Stuttgart in August but this was considered Only a formality. After the Congress the Council was expected to formally vote for the reinstate ment of the two americans. If the big Money making Tennis stars Are allowed to play in the olympics there is no reason Why Nehemiah and Gault should be banned Primo Nebiolo the italian president of the International Amateur athletics federation said thursday. John Mcenroe Ivan lend and Bori Becker make millions in Tennis their own sport and they will be allowed to compete in the olympics. Nehemiah and Gault make Money in another sport professional football but they Are amateurs in track and Field. There is no logic in this Rebolio s comments followed the recent endorsement by the International olympic committee and president Juan Antonio a Maranchi of a move to permit professionals to compete in the games subject to the approval of the governing bodies in their sport. Several sports including Tennis have already approved the participation of professionals in the olympics. The Rule change to Clear the Way for Al pros is to be voted on at an olympic meet ing in october. The reinstatement of the two american hurdles can come Only after a Resolution of our organization changing the rules Nebiolo said. Nebiolo said he urged the Ioc and the International federations to come up with one Standard on eligibility. Nebiolo said the Issue would be discussed Ata meeting of the association of summer.
