European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - March 1, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Ann Landers saturday March 1, 1986 the stars and stripes Page 11 dear Ann Landers in 1983, i loaned $500 to a relative who had dipped into her Bowling group s Treasury to the tune of $1,100. If the facts had become known she would have lost her Job. The one who would have suffered most was her 13-year-old Ujj daughter. All kinds of promises were made about paying me Back. I gave her 12 months in Terest free before she was obligated to make the first payment which i set at $30 a month with 6 percent interest. She made two payments in the fall of 1984 and i Haven t seen a dime since. In july of last year this person was spending Money on luxury items and flaunting her purchases shamelessly. I wonder How Many of your readers have had similar experiences and what they did about it. Any feedback on this subject bamboozled in michigander Bam your Story is As old As the Hills. It happens All the time. I advise my readers who ask before the fact too bad you did t to take the desperate Friend to sign a notarized promissory note. If you have nothing in writing you Are out of Luck. Invariably you lose your Money and the Friendship goes Down the tubes As Well. Dear Ann Landers have tried to let my friends know with gentle words a sense of humor and mild annoyance but they ignore the message. I refer to Call waiting and second Telephone lines. People Don t realize How rude it is to be put on hold when another Call comes in. Busy folks who can t stand to miss a Call should install two separate lines and one answering machine. The machine could take the caller s name and no one is left on hold. We have six children and three Tele phone lines All separate. My husband and i use and answer our phone and the other lines Are answered by those designated to their respective numbers. We have a signal for emergencies incas our line is Busy. I have no patience when a Friend says hold on my other line is. i resent being put on hold with no consideration for my time or feelings. I d like your views on this hotly debated subject. Steamed in Ala i Don t mind being put on hold briefly. If i am kept waiting beyond what i con Sider a reasonable time i hang up. You should do the same. Dear Ann Landers please Tell the 12-year-old boy whose parents took exception to his eating one until it was finished before going on to the next one i.e., from meat to vegetable to potato that my brother and also our son did exactly that. They Are both graduates of . My brother taught there. I always believed that people who Are scientific and mathematically inclined apply the same precision when it comes to cleaning their dinner plates. Neither my brother nor our son has changed his eating habits and it has never bothered us in the least. Laid Back in Californi adear . I was amazed at the Reader response to that letter. Your brother and your son have an enormous number of soulmates. Some nutritionists even said it is healthy. So Bon appetite you one at a timers reminder All letters to the editor must contain the full printed name and address of the writer and must be signed. Army leadership development course must be taken i to a n 4 a 41 a 1 a 4 . f t i am writing this letter out of frustration As no one seems to know the answer to the questions i be asked. My question concerns the new military personnel Center Mil percen policy that requires All soldiers to be graduates of the primary leadership development course Ploc in order to be eligible for promotion to e-6. The requirement becomes effective july 1, 1986, and those soldiers who do not meet the Ploc requirement will be administratively removed from the promotion list june30, 1986. I am on a promotion list for e-6 and have not attended Ploc yet. My question is Why Are All non resident courses not accept Able for this requirement Why is it that Ploc is now mandatory for promotion to e-6 when a Soldier May have completed a More advanced no development course of instruction specifically i have completed the Basic technical course Etc for my military occupational specially mos and expect graduation from the advanced no course Ancor within a couple of months and prior to july 1, 1986. Both of these courses have been taken non resident via correspondence. Both Etc and Ancor Are considered higher no professional development courses than Ploc which is a primary level course. A 351-1, Section a chapter 6, paragraph 27 states individuals selected for resident Ancor after taking it by correspondence will not attend the Resi Dent army Reg 351-1, chapter 8, paragraph 6, non resident instructions continues by saying successful completion of amry non resident instruction is considered on an equal level of attainment with resident if this statement is True Why is it now writer told to be thankful for Job this is in regard to a recent letter. Being an american should be enough Reward for anyone. Since this writer was in the military at one time he she should have been experienced with the fact that the military is subject to 24-hour-a-Day, seven Day a week duty. L my husband spent 20 years in service and i have 13 years civil service time so i know How hard civilians work. True there Are times when you turn out a Day s work. When a civilian takes leave he is charged Only for work Days when a i takes leave he is charged for saturday sunday and even a Holiday if it Falls Dur ing that time. Thousands of served in combat they did so because they Felt it their duty to their country. Since you Are working for Dod you have the privilege of using the Exchange and commissary overseas but being re tired military we Don t have this privilege. Since you served in the military you can use the a Hospital we can t. True we have champs with limitations. If you Are working so hard then Why Don t you quit and give some sex Retiree the Slot when i worked in civilian payroll it was our duty to get the payroll out regard less of circumstances. When president Kennedy was assassinated the base was closed but payroll department worked. Then the base was closed due to inclement weather the payroll department had to get to work somehow so that the rest could Call us to see if their checks were on time. We did t expect a Reward. Some did t even ask or care How we got to work just so they got their checks. As for having an educated supervisor Why Aren t you a supervisor be thankful you have a . Position and just say my Reward is being an american. Mary Lou Hardman taif saudi Arabia her trip to Barber s was Cut Short recently i decided that my 1-year-old daughter needed a hair Cut. I went to our Beauty shop but it was already closed. It was around 5 . Well i decided that i would just take her to the Barber shop since she just needed a Little trim anyway. I was told that they would not Cut her hair because she was female. My question is Why is there such a policy men Are serviced in our Beauty shop. I feel that this policy is a bit outdated and also very discriminatory. Susie Barger Pir Masens Germany editor s note master sgt. Bruce e. It s True some men do use our Beauty shops but it has t presented any problem since most beauticians have been trained to Cut men s hair. On the other hand Barbers Are usually trained to Cut Only men s hair and Don t have the experience to Cut women s hair. It s difficult to say without More specifics if the Barber you mentioned was qualified to Cut your child s hair. A Barber just like any other health and Beauty specialist has the right and obligation to refuse to perform a serv if he or she does t feel qualified to do an acceptable Job. Letter notes claims against Iran so Iran plans to take the United states to the world court in an Effort to reclaim so called stolen f-14 parts Well that s switch. Perhaps now they will consider settling the outstanding claims of $250,000 that have been pending since october 1981 claims pending before that very same inter National court. In Case people have forgotten these Are the claims filed by americans who worked in Iran and lost jobs household effects cars Etc. And suffered abuse once Khomeini came to Power in february 1979. More than $1 billion has been deposited in a Bank drawing interest mind you but the iranians cannot get it until All of the claims Are settled. If they were to Settle right now they would obtain a hefty sum which i m certain they can use. Clyde Allen Jidida saudi Arabia pen pals i am 20 years old and would like pen pals. Ver non Mathes 1st per com officer enlisted promotions Branch he usar eur replies department of the army policy requires that All sergeants on a current recommended promotion list to staff sergeant be graduates of a primary leadership development course Ploc prior o july 1, 1986, or be removed from the current promotion standing list. Soldiers who have graduated from a resident primary noncommissioned offi cer course or primary leadership course conducted at a noncommissioned officer Academy Are considered to have met the Ploc requirement. Soldiers who graduated from a Basic noncommissioned officer course prior to Jan. 1, 1986, Are exempt from this Ploc requirement. Non resident courses do not satisfy the Ploc requirement. This requirement was established to ensure that All soldiers being promoted to the Grade of staff sergeant have attended at least the primary level leadership train ing courses. Leadership skills such As marching troops administering physical training and instructing in a classroom environment cannot be adequately taught and evaluated through non resident courses. Therefore the requirement for attendance in residence was implemented. There is an adequate number of Ploc training seats available for All qualified soldiers.
