Deaver former Deputy White House chief of staff Friday denied that he is using his government contacts and Friendship with presi Dent Reagan to help his clients. There s no question that Ronald and Nancy Reagan Are very dear friends of mine and have been for 25 years he said in an interview on the Public broadcasting sys tem s Macneil Lehrer news hour. What i m saying is i would t tread on that Friendship on behalf of a client and frankly i m insulted that people think that s All i have to offer he said. Deaver joined Reagan s staff during his first term and left 11 months ago to set up a Public relations firm Michael k. Deaver & associates. His clients have included the governments of saudi Arabia South Korea and Canada and defense contractor Rockwell International. In the interview he denied any impropriety in his recent meeting with James c. Miller Iii director of the office of manage ment and budget in which they discussed Rockwell s by bomber. The defense contractor is pressing the government to buy More of the bombers when the initial contractor 100 is fulfilled in 1988. I went to the meeting purely on an informational basis. I did t ask him for any action or opinion Deaver told interviewer Jim Lehrer adding i did that to let him know Deaver where i was coming from and per haps give him some information he had t been Able to get from other  questions about Deaver s lobbying on behalf of Canada prompted rep. John Dingell d-mich., to ask on dec. 10 for an investigation by the general accounting office the congressional watchdog Agency. The exercise dubbed Ocean venture 86," will involve roughly 20,000 . Serv ice members the Pentagon said. The exercise will Start april 28 and run through May 11, the Pentagon added. The exercise is designed to demonstrate the capability of the United states to project military Power when necessary to protect its National interests by supporting Friendly neighbors in the Caribbean the Pentagon said. A Small number of soldiers from five is land nations in the Region which have formed a regional Security Force will join . Troops in the exercise. About three dozen jamaican soldiers also will participate. The Force will thus be similar in composition to the .-led Force that invaded Gre Nada in october 1983 to overthrow a cuban backed government. More than a dozen americans were killed. The last . The Pentagon said the exercise on Gre Nada would occur primarily Between May 6 and 9 and would also involve air support counter insurgency exercises and Maneu vers by special operations forces. This reflects both the relatively High incomes and Low food prices in the United states the report says. The figures were derived from total private expenditures which were $8,644 per person in the United states in 1982, the report says. Of that amount $1,050 was spent for food at Home. If beverages Are included the average food Bill in 1982 was about $1,245, or 14.4 percent of total spending the report says. In contrast Over 18 percent of Canadian consumer expenditures were for food and beverages with food accounting for almost 15 percent the report says. The shares for British Consumers were 17.8 percent for food and beverages and about 15 percent for  Italy topped the list of seven developed countries with Consumers spending 28.8 percent of their total expenditures on food and beverages including 26.7 percent for food.
