The pulitzer prize Board met monday and tuesday to pick the winners from 63 finalists said Fred Knubel a spokesman for Columbia University. The Board is made up of 18 prominent editors publishers and news executives. In March panels of 65 editors picked three finalists in each category and recommended winners for the journalism awards. The arts and letter finalists were picked by three member juries that met Independent in Knubel said there were a record number of entries this year. Court upholds dismissal of charges against Goetz new York a a state appeals court thursday upheld the dismissal of attempted murder and assault charges against Bernhard Goetz in the shooting of four Young men on a subway train. The appellate division of the state trial level court agreed in a 3-2 decision that the prosecutor erred in telling a grand jury to consider what a reasonable person would have done in Goetz s situation. The court said the prosecutor should have told the jury to consider whether the defendant himself believed the use of deadly physical Force was necessary. Goetz s lawyer Barry Slotnick said the decision was a vindication of Law order and  but Manhattan District attorney Robert Morgenthau said the decision is applicable in every Case involving a claim of  Morgenthau said he agreed with Justice Sidney h.
