European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - April 21, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Monday april 21, 1986 the stars and stripes Page 11 a Friend tearfully told me she is going to put her dog to sleep because he is totally out of con this 3-year old Collie that she s had since a Puppy has not been House broken or taught to sit. Another sad Story our neighbors have a Beautiful Cocker Spaniel Puppy. Ginger runs out of the House every time the door is opened. He refuses to come Back when they Call him so they leave the door open and wait until he decides he s ready to return Home. These people paid $300 for this Bright Little dog but they Haven t bothered to put a Collar with an id on him. What can a person do about such sad situations both dogs Are fed and sheltered better than a lot of people i know but in Stead of lying at their masters feet beside the Hearth they Are chewing the rugs to shreds. Why do people assume that the cute cuddly Puppy they bring Home will grow up knowing not to jump All Over people Chew the furniture snap at Small children and drag Bones from the dinner table into the living room you printed a dog s plea recently. I d like to add the following lines please give me Loving discipline and training. Without these the relationship we both want will become a Nightmare of frustration and anger and everybody loses. . I Hope you offered to find a Home for dog no. 1. Regarding the second situation people who Don t want to take the time to train their puppies should be told about obedience schools. Dear Ann Landers my sister and her husband came to our Home for a Lovely filet mignon dinner and game of Bridge last saturday night. In the Middle of dinner my brother in Law left the table walked into my spotless Kitchen and threw up in the sink. He returned to the dining room and said nothing. I did not discover what he had done until i went into the Kitchen to carry out the plates. I called my sister in handed her the sponge and told her to please clean up the mess. She was just As horrified As i. The following morning Sis called to Tell me she asked her husband on the Way Home Why he threw up in my Kitchen sink. He replied because i Felt like have you Ever hear of such behaviour any suggestions . In Bethesda dear Beth the next time you see your brother in Law inform him that if he Ever needs to throw up in your Home again he should use the toilet or it will be the last time you invite him for a meal. My apologies to those of you who Are Reading this at the breakfast table. I m typing it at night. Dear Ann Landers a couple of years ago you described in your column what happens to a cur when it hits a tree going 60 Miles an hour. I never thought seriously about wearing my seat Belt until you pointed out that when a car crashes the front end has stopped moving but the rear end is still going 60 Miles an hour. Those few lines have made me buckle up automatically. Please Ann save a few More lives by running that article again. Saved in Charlotte Char i Don t neet to run it again. You picked out the most powerful sentences. I thank you on behalf of those people whose lives you May have saved. Readers wishing to write to news America Syndi Cate columnist Landers May address their letters in care of the stars and stripes Apo 09211, us forces Auto License plate Issue rep. Patricia Schroeder s comments on providing Ger Man License plates to american forces in Germany brought the attached thought to our minds. In addition tothe humor it May make a Point. Mike Wissner of Kaiserslautern should be credited with the drawing should you use it. . Sullivan Kapaun As Germany irresponsible skier injured boy ruined vacation Beautiful Sunshine Good Snow and the Majestic scenery of the Stein Platte com prised the ingredients to the perfect begin Ning of a week of family fun. Then at 4 45 . It happened. A Levi Clad hit and run skier came at uncontrolled break neck Speed and totally upended my 8-year-old son. The skier had More than 40 meters to pass on the right. However he tried to squeak by on the left where one Trail joined another and collided with my son. The skier travelled several Hundred meters before he could even begin to Stop. He finally stopped and turned around gave a Quick glance and then continued to Speed on his Way. My son could not ski away. He had to be taken Down the slope on a Stretcher and then to an austrian Hospital by ambulance. His face received the major Impact of the collision. As a result he suffered broken Bones in his Mouth and tooth dislocation As Well As other cuts and abrasions. I Don t know yet what the final outcome will be regarding the loss of permanent Teeth or nose complications. I do know that a family s vacation was ruined a Young boy is enduring much discomfort and inconvenience and he must limit any physical activity for the next six weeks to include eat ing or even touching his Teeth with his Tongue lest they fall out. I also know that the austrian people were very helpful and gave us every assist Ance. I also thank god that my son was t injured any More severely or rendered permanently paralysed. But most important i want you the hit and run skier to become responsible for your own actions. When you put on skis real ize that control is far More important than Speed. Realize that As the Uphill skier it is your responsibility not to run into those skiing i front of you. If you should be so irresponsible As to deliberately be hot dogging and bowl another per son Over have the decency to Stop and offer help. That you could Hurt anyone especially a child and not even come Back to help or in quire about his condition is just beyond com prehension. I have seen Many Young soldiers on the slopes in Austria skiing at speeds beyond their control and boasting about it being the first time on skis and what do their friends expect. What All of us expect is common sense and a sense of responsibility. If you weren t the irresponsible skier at the Stein Platte on March 31, but feel guilty after Reading this letter then perhaps my purpose has been achieved to make you think about the consequences of your behaviour. Germany is Wun Derbar and skiing is Wun Derbar so enjoy your tour but let others enjoy theirs As Well. Name withheld Vaihinger Germany the and Lpes
