My physician says it is fatal. I have a wife and two children Ages 6 and 3. Please Titi me if Tarn crazy i have old no one about my physical condition nor do i in tend to jus because a woman has the misfortune to fall in love with a Man who is destined to die slowly does that mean she must be forced o witness the agony when the disease becomes impossible to hide i plan to disappear leaving letters to those i love explaining the situation. I would rather they remember me the Way i was than As the useless Shell 1 will become. I am not the first person to consider doing this but i have never heard of anyone who actually pulled it need to know if i can be admitted to a Hospital when he time comes and insist that they Noi inform anyone. Can i enter he Hospital under an assumed name please answer these question and let me know what you think of my plan to spare my loved ones a lot of grief. Toronto dear Toronto we checked with the office of Legal counsel at Northwestern memorial Hospital in Chicago they old is he following no Hospital will known july allow a patient to be admitted of he us false information. It Isth duty of the Hospital i keep accurate records. A patient has the right however to insist that he pres ence be Kepi those Are the technicalities. On the practical Side in my opinion your strategy u not Wise humane or realistic. First it is going to be very difficult to keep your illness a secret. Lirar problems rum the skin yellow. Second your family he the right to know and Brace themselves for the inevitable they Are bound to be distressed and resentful if Yoo disappear. You will cause them much less pain if you stay at Home and Allan you loved ones to help you prepare for the or id Luck and cud Bleu. Dear Ann Landers i would like to comment on the torrent of recent statistics concerning the shortage of available men and the overload of articles concerning women s dissatisfaction with their lot in life. We self supporting self respecting women protest these constant reminders. Our situation is unpleasant enough without hearing about it yet another Lime from Ann Landers yet. What s More these articles reinforce the attitude that men can have anything they wan because women arc so desperate. Along with women s lib came a Host of unexpected problems. Many of us were better off before. Our free Dom has Cost us a great Deal loneliness superficial relationships and broken marriages. Magazine articles dump the Burden for change on women while men go merrily on their Way doing As they please exploiting and using us because so Many women will put up Wuh an awful lot of garbage rather than risk being alone. We think it s Lime women declared their Independence and made men work at developing successful relationships. _ a ousted in the Bronx dear Bronx Yora reasoning is sound. Now All you have la do is Iteck a the Battle plan. Thai s the hard part i atol maintain that the Cream Rise la the tap. Letters Mother remembers death of her baby today i found out that in my neighbourhood a family lost their child to sudden infant death syndrome. I Fonow How they Are feeling. They Are stunned. They can t understand Why. They Are feeling guilty i know All these feelings because i be been there. We lost our second son two years ago. One morning he was dead in his crib. He was Only 10 months old. No one could predict this not my husband or son was never sick in those 10 months. He was Happy and cheerful easy to please. He was a perfect baby boy i had read about crib death before and wondered what i would do if it happened to any of my children. Would i go crazy could my marriage survive a Iraq cd like that i always thought things like thai Hap pen to other people nol us at the Lime of our son s death i was nine months pregnant with our third child and i was scared stiff about it. One month to the Day after our second son s death i had another boy. He is healthy thank cod but i was very worried about him would it happen again every time he was sick and he was a lot i would go crazy with worry. He is All right now. He just turned 2 last month. We have a baby girl who is div months old and our oldest boy is school age. They Are All Fine and i plan on hav ing More children. My dead son would be 3 years old this month. We think a lot about him we talk about him. He is still very much part of our family and he always will be. I know the Hurt you Are feeling but please Don t give up. Not on yourself on your life or on your family. Itis important to talk about it and let it All out the anger the helplessness the frustrations. Turn to each other and cry. This is especially for the men. Don t shut your partner out. It is vitally important for your marriage and also for your Oiher children. They really need your support. And Don t ill them horror stories about death Tell them As gently As Possi ble what happened. Do not avoid their questions and never Tell them not to ask. I guess what i am trying to Tell you All is that life goes on. In Lime the Hurt will Lessen and you will be Able to think easily about this special child of yours. Think Back to the precious time you had to share with the child and be grateful for it. There is so much More i would like to pass on to you for i feel that if i can help one family with this letter my son s death was nol just a loss. Remember that a lot of people Don l know How to handle situations like this. They arc awkward and the might say things that might sound inconsiderate like you still arc Young you an have More babies and another one can take its Don l get mad Al them. They mean Well bul they can l express in right. Let them know you feel equally awkward. Don l have another baby to fill the void in your life. It would nol be fair to you your dead child or the baby on the Way for in has the right to be loved for itself. You might experience More pain when you find out bal the iwo babies Are quite different from each other i never responded to any other tragedies like this. Bul 1 know in is Lime for me to share Otis not just Formy own Sake bul for the Sake of other families who go through the same thing.
