The memorandum was taken during a University in House investigation being handled by the Houston Law firm of Ludell Sapp and Lively into allegations that Yeoman and his assistant coaches had paid players in violation of Mcaa rules. In the memorandum taken last july 10, Yeoman defended his actions on the grounds the Money was Given in Small amounts and was generally Given for humanitarian purposes. The memo quoted Yeoman As saying he gave Money to players for Gas for their cars utilities or rent for players parents. For example if one of the player s parents could not pay rent and were about to be evicted. Coach Yeoman would provide the Money for that month s rent the memorandum says Yeoman said such Money was not Given to the players but went directly to the parents. The former coach told the investigators some of the Money came from his own pocket and occasionally he called on alumni to contribute Money Yeoman who coached the cougars for 25 seasons resigned at the end of last season and was replaced As head coach by Jack Pardee. He currently is special assistant to University president Rich Ard Van Horn in charge of athletic fund raising. Yeoman could not immediately be reached for comment by Telephone and attorneys for the school said they would nol comment pending completion of the Mcaa investigation. Ten Days ago Philadelphia broke off negotiations with Parrish after the fryc agcy Catcher and his agent refused to agree nol to sue major league baseball Over alleged collusion by the owners. However a source told the associated press monday that the Phillies and Parrish have resumed negotiations. Last week them or league players association filed a grievance against the Phillies challenging the club s insistence on a no suit clause in Parrish s con tract. The association claims the Phillies and Parrish had agreed on a one year $1 million contract before the team asked for the no suit clause. Baseball Roundup a grievance hearing is expected in two weeks.
