The army would like to buy 4,500 of the new Lex copters starting in the mid-1990s, at a Cost of Between $40 Bil lion and $60 billion. The program would provide years of work for virtually every major company in the helicopter Busi a Competition to select the eventual producers has begun pitting a team led by Mcdonnell Douglas and Bell helicopter to Citron against another led by the Boeing co. But if they stand up they la give ammunition to those who have argued for measures to reduce emissions of acid rain precursors from Power plants and other fuel burning sources.
