Pal Robertson used his father s political influence in 1951 to avoid combat according to a motion to dismiss the television evangelist s libel suits. The defense motion to dismiss a pair of j35 million libel suits against rep. Andrew Jacobs jr., d-ind., and former rep. Paul Mccloskey r-calif., cites testimony from former marines who served in Korea with Mcclosky and Robertson. The pretrial deposition testimony of these former marines was cited by lawyers for Jacobs and Mcclos key As evidence that Robertson has failed to prove the falsity of statements made by Mccloskey in a letter to Jacobs dated aug. 4, 1986. The letter which was subsequently published by two syndicated newspaper columnists said Robertson had asked his father the late sen. A.
