Many soldiers Are working and living in facilities that were built More than 30 years ago and inc Only Upkeep they be received is what inc soldiers them selves have put into them using personal Lime person Al Money Etc. Granted Money is a big problem. There just in t enough of it to go around to provide maintenance fur All of the facilities that need it. However we should draw the line somewhere. Here at a Ellingen Barracks we have men and women living in the same billets and using the same latrines Side by Side. This is an army of equal Opportunity granted and we work together during the Day. But do we have to endure men and women showering shaving Etc., in the same facility 1 think not. The ultimate solution would be to build a separate latrine for both sexes. But is the Money available for such an undertaking no of course not we live with this fault however and receive no compensation for the inadequacies. Yet based on my personal experience with the air Force if one of their members was living in this Type of facility he would draw extra pay for living in substandard Barracks. Yet with people living this Type of existence he air Force spent Money to renovate what most Likely was a very Good facility to begin with. And thanks to heir Bosses who requested Money to upgrade the facility they re now living in hotel dormitories Complete with individual bathrooms and Wall to Wall carpeting. As a member of one of the services that suffers from Lack of Money i resent that. So whal to like to know is How the air Force can justify refurbishing a facility that was probably Fine to begin with knowing How air Force facilities go while the rest of us Lead such a shabby existence and where i aptly is this Money coming from that s being used to build these elite facilities if its coming from a pot that s designed to be spread among All services throughout Europe Why Aren t the rest of us receiving our fair share to upgrade our facilities so that they re at least habitable i m not saying that i prefer the air Force Way of doing things. No not at All. What i m saying is that perhaps they re a Little bit too spoiled. Compare any air Force base with any army Cavern and you la cd a world of differ ence whether it s in Europe or the United states. Perhaps we in the army Art accustomed to working and living in substandard facilities but that does t mean we would t like the Money to help build them up a Little. Of course even with Money appropriated to help refurbish our facilities it s highly unlikely we d Ever get to the Standard that the air Force has.
