Unfortunately she was obsessed with far out religions and Miracle cures. At age 43 mom had a stroke that left her paralysed none Side. Her Hobby began to consume her life and it proved Tobe her undoing. Mom walked with a Cane an dragged one foot but she typed Well with her Good hand. Ever week she sent for dozens of herbs roots crystals and compound that promised to make her Well. My dad was devoted to her and they went to Mexico several times to visit health spas and Confer with in 1983, mom developed breast cancer. She refuse to see a medical doctor and returned to Mexico for the Blackberry powder a Chain smoking nurse who wore dirty jeans gave Mother treatments. Several months later it was apparent that mow an t getting any better so dad brought her Home. She had drunk Gallons of Aloe Vera juice and had Doz ens of Blackberry powder treatments. By the time she agreed to go to a legitimate cancer clinic to receive conventional treatment it was too late. Please Tell your readers to stay away from if mom had not gone in for All that garbage she might have been one of the 50 percent who beat in Arizona dear Arizona you told them better than i could. What a shame that billions of dollars Are shovelled out to quacks for Worth less cures that not Only Don t work but also waste valuable time that could be spent pursuing legitimate treatment. I have dealt with this subject in the column beforehand am Happy to do so again. Unfortunately when ple become desperate they will try anything. And this i Why the charlatans do so Well. Dear Ann Landers i have a different View on a recent column about never lending Money to relatives. My advice is never borrow Money from when my wife and i were first married we borrowed$500 from her parents. We paid against that loan every month with interest As agreed. Meanwhile we Wen without a great Many things so that we could Honor our loan was paid Back. The debt however never seemed to get paid. Every time we saw her parents every conversation began with a reminder of How we helped you out when you were up against me i wish we had starved rather than borrow that piddly amount of Money. Please Tell your readers theother Side of the Story. You never get to know people until you Are in their debt. My advice is to borrow from a banker a credit Union or do without. . In Texas dear . Even though it sounds As if you have a legitimate beef against your in Laws shame on Themi m reminded of that old French saying no Good deed will go Yunpu nished/1 dear Ann Landers please print some great advice that brides will bless you for Don t bring a wedding gift to the wedding or to the reception. They Are a nuisance to the Bride and her family. Someone must keep an Eye on those gifts and take them Home. Usually it s the Bride s Mother and lord knows she has a zillion other things to think about. Also cards get lost and it s a major headache. Thanks for passing the word doll. Montana fan dear Montana Good advice. You re the doll for writing. Pickup delivery of household furniture recently another exciting episode occurred while iwas attempting to turn in furniture to the local housing division. Again i was left to sit waiting for the con tractor to show sometime Between 7 30 . And 5 Why is it that an individual must sit in his or he apartment for an entire Day to return furniture that in some cases is on a waiting list for up to three or four months Why is it that when you go to housing to set the appointment foolishly hoping for the next Day that you re informed that it s not possible that we re booked solid until next week the Best they can give you for a pickup time is somewhere Between 7 30 . And 5 i understand that the local housing office itself has no control Over the pickup time yet it would not appear that difficult to me that if the contractor has full week s notice of the exact items Nee Ding pickup or delivery he would be better Able to plan his schedule. Why can t housing and the contractor sit Down and say of on the first of whenever we can schedule these three pickups or deliveries for the morning an these three for the afternoon since they re in the same area All the client has to do is Contact the housing office the Day after the initial appointment to verify the pickup or delivery time. Of i m sure that we Veall been through the Stan Dard solutions and really Don t find any of them Suita ble. Why not have a neighbor sit for you or get you Boss to let you off work for a couple of hours what if you Don t have a neighbor that s available to sit or Aboss who asks How Long just Tell him the entire Day but maybe not it s hard to or sit i your House from 7 30 . Until 2 30 . When it finally becomes an absolute must that you return to work Only to come Home to receive a note on your door that you weren t Here when we came at 2 45. It May be another two or three weeks before you can be rescheduled. Please Contact your housing so now i go Back to the housing office and they insist they have no control Over the contractor one wonderful clerk was kind enough Toat least try to request a morning pickup on the pickup request. After All i Only live in the same town As the warehouse and was Only trying to return a defective Box Spring delivered As such and some no longer needed furniture. Of i know about this one too. We should have checked the items before signing so As to preclude such difficulties in the for whatever reason we did t. Maybe it was just All the plastic it was wrap Ped in and the fear of my son getting wrapped in it Aswell As we unwrapped it. Nevertheless i ended up waiting another eight hours on the Day of pickup to find that someone unknown had crossed out the morning request and printed or Why can t there be better scheduling from the con tractor who services our housing division both on and off Post and perhaps maybe just maybe Well have afew More soldiers at work doing the Job they re trained to do. After All Aren t we Short enough of troops As it i without having to allow them to sit Home All Day wait ing for a truck chief warrant officer Michael t. Wasielewski Schweinfurt West Germany editor s note col. Chester h. Davis Deputy Community commander Schweinfurt replies the writer of this letter is Correct in expecting Thebes possible service from the centralized furnishings management office Como. We regret the frustration and inconvenience experienced by the writer. The Schweinfurt military Community is pleased to respond to your letter in reference to the scheduling operations of the Como. Our Mission and no. 1 priority is to serve the Soldier family and civilians in the most efficient an expedient manner possible. A satisfied customer is one who is kept informed of the procedures and operations within our organization. The Como has been under a new contract for its Furni Ture deliveries since August 1987. The contractor is try ing his Best to meet delivery schedules and we Are Mak ing every Effort to achieve morning 8-12 and afternoon 1-4 deliveries. Our furnishings contractor serves Over 120 villages within a radius of 56 Kilometres from the warehouse. The 120 local communities Are subdivided into five re Gions which Are assigned a particular Day of the week for delivery and pickup. The contractor is currently serv ing about 26 customers per Day. Pickup and deliveries Are scheduled 48 hours in Advance jointly Between the Foo and the contractor for a particular Region. Be cause of our Large delivery area and the number of customers requesting support it can take up to a week to schedule a furniture delivery or pickup. A major problem that upsets the delivery schedule dismissed appointments by customers. We Are presently averaging two missed appointments per Day. The Furni Ture is loaded on the truck the previous Day in the re verse order of the delivery schedule. The furniture forthe missed appointment then remains on the truck and blocks the furniture designated for the next customer. Inmost cases when a customer does not keep an appoint ment for delivery the contractor is forced to return the undelivered furniture to the warehouse. This is especially True for Early morning deliveries. If missed appointments could be reduced deliver schedules could be More precise thereby enabling morn ing or afternoon delivery schedules to be More Only is customer service affected by missed appoint ments but also the Community and customer lose valuable time and Money. After furniture has been delivered we ask the custom ers to take a few moments to inspect it for any damages. The contractor in most cases is liable and will return the damaged furniture to the warehouse for repairs. Not accepting unserviceable furniture . Damaged Box Springs will also save the customer time and the government Money. The Como will make every attempt to offer the sen of morning and afternoon appointments but we also would like to ask our customers to Call us if they cannot keep their appointments. As a result of your letter the Schweinfurt Como has initiated an appointment notification process system. The Como employees now Call customers 24 hours in Advance to reconfirm delivery an pickup appointments. Again the Schweinfurt Community would like to thank the writer for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention. The input is greatly appreciated. Cus Tomer service and Public relations Are improved with feedback from our customers. Pen pals please put my name in your pen pal Section.
