Despite starting on the front Row ahead of the my Larens and despite austrian Gerhard Berger s leading the first 14laps, neither he nor his italian teammate Mich Nann Niele Albreto finished in the Points. Berger who had pole position in his Ferrari first pole other than Mclaren car this Yea was never in Contention once eventual Winner Ayrton Senna of Brazil got by. At the end Berger ran out of Gas a few Yards fro the finish line and instead of placing sixth three cars zipped by his Ferrari and he finished ninth. But Attis stage one Point for sixth place would mean nothing to Berger. His Only satisfaction would have been a Victory and with the Mclaren Honda cars so dominant that does t seem in the scheme of things this season. The englishman Mansell who will join Ferrari next year to become Berger s teammate had his Best race of the season with his second place finish behind the winning Senna. One could say that it was Mansell s Only race for that matter As he had not finished a single grand prix this year in his Wil Liams Judd until his Brilliant drive last sunday in his Home event. He also set fastest Lap during his Spiri Ted Battle with Nannini in the Benetton Ford. After the grand prix Mansell who started from11th place on the Grid told reporters the rain certainly helped me because the conditions were very difficult. Despite spinning twice on the Slippery Silverstone circuit in his Pursuit 9f the experienced Mansell head the presence of mind to keep his engine going to drive Back onto the track and to continue his relent less but fruitless Pursuit. Nannini should be the Ben Etton Ford team Leader next season As the Belgia Thierry Boutsen announced during the British grand prix weekend that he will be leaving Benetton at the end of the season to join the Williams team.
