We teamed that he had been guiding Duck Hunters for More than 10 years thing commercially for eels during the off season. He called it a really Good life Hunting and fishing All the time we quickly found out that he was an excellent guide Wilh Eagle eyes. Over and Over he spotted Birds at great distances enabling us to Crouch Down before they spoiled surfaces Blind. With the approach of Dawn the wind slacked off slightly and shifted from Northeast to East Southeast before picking up again to around 15 with a temperature hovering around 20 degrees and the chill from the icy planks coming right our rubber Soled boots it chilled our faces and ears and numbed our feet. This Day with the combination of the better location and the change in the weather we had More action than Tho Day before starting at Daybreak. 1 he ducks did not come in huge flocks but in ones and twos sometimes in threes and fours. Bolh Fin missed some easy chances then made laugh passing shots the Birds folding up cleanly and splashing Down so or 60 Yards out. Lammers s Gordon setter Raker eagerly bounded out to retrieve the downed Birds in Between times silting Pali Only shivering in the boat with the water freezing to ice droplets in his fur. We even had a Chance at some geese though they were Long shots arid in the end we did t get any. The Beauty of the blustery Day the dog working the Birds flying made us forget the cold somewhat. But it was a Welcome break when we sat Clown at Midmore Ligand opened our thermoses of Coffee. When 1 complimented Lammert on his guiding skills he explained Wilh mild condescension that the above icum Duett liken during morning Hunt on the Kei Finiff near Kampton Netherlands left dare Slobodzian warms up Hillh a cup of co fee As the Sun edges up Over the Blind. Other two guides did t do it As a full Lime profession but Only As a second Job. Bui we knew we would have enough for a few delicious meals when we got Home. It had been our Day fur Hunting and when we got Back in to Shore we Learned thai Dick and Art Hunting the same Blind they had the Day before had gotten Only three. We had one More than a dozen though four of them were Cool the much maligned poor relatives of the waterfowl family. Later Back at the boat Dave and i took some Good natured ribbing Over the coot. An promised to come looking for you with a Shotgun if they somehow ended up in his game bag. To a Duck Hunter bad weather is Good weather and we had hoped for a Nasty Stormy morning on the last Day. A fiery Dawn sky streaked with Mare s tall Clouds got our Hopes up a Little but again the Day turned to Chilly Sunshine and a stiff southeasterly Breeze. The fact that in was saturday and More local Hunters were out in the surrounding marshes got a few More Birds moving. Dave and 1 took the Blind at the Mouth of the River and Dick and Art got the outer Blind. Again we would have our chances Early and this Day because of the be in the Small canals and Pool there would be a lot of Teal flying Over the Lake. Because of other plans i had to go in Early at 10 00 . Hiking Back along the Dike at the end of the hum the Brilliant Green of the pasture the ruled Brown of the Marsh grass and the few remaining leaves on the Trees contrasted sharply Wilh deathless Blue of the ruffled Waler beyond.
