Shevardnadze making rounds on Middle East peace Missioni Cairo Egypt a soviet foreign ministered Uard Shevardnadze spearheading Moscow s deepened interest in the Middle East peace process on monday invited Egypt s president to the soviet Union and scheduled meetings this week with palestinian and israeli leaders. Shevardnadze is scheduled to meet israeli foreign minister Moshe Arens on wednesday at the soviet embassy in Cairo. The soviet minister said he would also hold talks in Cairo with Yasser Arafat chairman of the Palestine liberation organization. Arens flew monday to an egyptian military base near Cairo to prepare for meetings with Shevardnadze and egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
