Rhein main s 14-Gamc winning Streak finished. The rockets three game regular season shutout Streak history. Both streaks were struck by a lanky Saber Quarter Back named Mcluca Thurmond. His stunning 75-Yard touchdown Gallop with five seconds left in the first half gave Spang a 7-0 Lead. He then directed the sabers on three Long drives in the second half to Clinch their 3-0 record and drop the defending Safe champions to 2-1. Not bad for a Spang Rookie making his first Continental sports conference Start and Only because Jack Safe football Craft sprained his ankle the week before. He s still learning said Spang coach Dave lock Wood who added that Craft is still his no. I a a. On sunday though Thurmond was the big cheese. His touchdown was one of the most incredible in re cent Safe history. Consider the circumstances. First quarterbacks Don t run 75-Yard touchdowns. Second they Don t run them against a defense that had fired so Many Zero the past year and a half. Third Thurmond got his Chance Only after Rhein main ran into Spang s punter on the previous play. That gave the sabers a first Down at their 25 with 26 seconds left. What to Call Why a "74," naturally Lockwood said that was the name of the play a pass play. Then rather than run 74 Yards Thurmond ran 75. It was a spectacular play said Lockwood. But it was supposed to be a pass. It was really a busted  it busted right through the rockets. Their hapless Arm tackles left them sprawled behind Thurmond. Maybe Rhein main s defense missed its Leader line Backer Jay Grigson stuck in Turkey on try. But that defense had Al Csc nose guard Mike Drew for one last game. He produced two sacks one of which to d Thurmond for a few plays. I feel when i m ready and healthy i should play said Hill. Hill also noted Rhein main s bickering Success for some reason brings problems. We got big Heads for this game. We thought we d come in and blow them  but Rhein main through we be got it wrapped said Hill. After this game i won t sit until the third or fourth Quarter to play. It s us against Simbach in the championship game that will have to be without Star tight end t. Cole Man who leaves this week for Korea. Thai s the least of Rhein main s problems if you listen to last year s most valuable player cornerback Butch Watkins. He s upset Over Doug Stanley return ing last week to coach the defense. We can win if we get some coaches said Watkins. Spang was very Well prepared. There s dissension on our team because Doug quits then comes Back and names the starting lineup. There arc big rumblings serious  Doug Stanley s father Warren Stanley says the rockets will overcome that dissension. And overcome sunday s loss. No question in my mind said the head coach. I think when the season is Over it will be a Blip on the football screen. Nothing More. This is a great team and Well come  the next time these teams meet. Sept. 30 at Rhein main it could be for the Eiful division title. Willie Floyd and Mark fludd scored Wiesbaden s Only Points to hand the Barons their third loss and sole Possession of the Eiful division cellar. Floyd picked off Pitburg quarterback Marc Steven Only pass of the game returning it 30 Yards for the touchdown. Floyd s interception complemented fludd s second Quarter 10-Yard touchdown run to Bury the Barons. Fludd led Wiesbaden runners with 70 Yards in 25 carries. Senna shines in rain to take belgian up spa Franco champs Belgium a brazilian world Champion Ayrton Senna won the belgian grand prix sunday with Brilliant wet weather driving narrow ing the Gap in the world standings on Mclaren Honda teammate Alain Prosl of France who finished second. Briton Nigel Mansill driving a Ferrari was third just behind Prost and Home favorite Thierry Boutsen in a Wil Liams Renault finished far Back in fourth in a race in which rain and Spray heavily reduced visibility. Leading throughout in the 190-mile race on the spa Franco champs track Senna cruised Home in one hour 40 min utes 54.196 seconds 1.304 seconds ahead of Prost and 1.824 seconds in front of Mansill. Despite the tight finish Senna was Al ways in control and led most of the Way by about 10 seconds. There was no Rea son for me to carry on fast in the last laps he said.
