Many of these hems Are gifts from friends and customers and have sentimental value. We treasure these Knickknacks collected Over the years. Why Don t customers realize that we put Nice things around to make them feel at Home not so they can take them i wonder How they would feel if House guests walked off with Tea towels Pillow cases an silverware please. The unprecedented and unexpected events that confront us almost daily these past few months remind me of that famous expression from the great american poet and philosopher. At one Point in the evening the owner and Host Hans Schneider made some Happy new year remarks and then unexpectedly presented me As one of the americans present a piece of the Berlin Wall. He asked me to accept it and to extend to All americans his thanks and appreciation for helping to bring the Wall Down. I was deeply moved by everyone s genuine express ions of warmth and friendliness. The entire evening was spent in an atmosphere of fun and Friendship. It is an evening 1 am not Likely to forget for some time. Negative stories abound around the world about America and i must say it was reassuring to my values to know that there Are Many people who appreciate America s commitment and support of the in Sciple of Freedom of Choice. I am not so naive As to think that this one Small and simple incident is necessarily typical of the attitude of All germans but i am convinced that it did say some thing very special and important about those people at that moment.
