The Navy has previously Given a second Chance to recruits who tested positive for marijuana use in Boot Camp. The policy was designed to give recruits who might not have known better a Chance to change. At the same time the Navy barred recruits who tested positive for cocaine and other hard drugs. Acting on the orders of Congress All the services began testing recruits and officer candidates for drug and alcohol abuse in 1988. The air Force allows recruits to admit to marijuana use but once they Are signed up they must quit using any drugs said maj. Lou Figueroa a spokesman. Army spokeswoman Paige Eversol said army policy allows anyone who tests Posi Tive for marijuana to try again six months later to enter the service. If they test Posi Tive for cocaine they must wait a full year before reapplying. In his message Trost said he was taking the step to improve the Quality of the Force.
