Please help me with my search for some american citizens who were German prisoners of War in a prison Camp in Pockay Lengefeld. As far As i can remember those americans were taken prisoners during the Battle in the ardennes. In those weeks the regions of Dresden Chemnitz and other cities in the area were struck by heavy air raids. Pockay Lengefeld was hit As Well. In those times of need a Friendship developed Between a Young american prisoner of War and myself. My school English helped me communicate with him. Several trying situations we lived through together strengthened our Friendship. On May 7, 1945, the invading red army came into town with trucks and brought the pos a including my Friend a to Chemnitz. The autobahn North of Chemnitz was the German american front in those Days. In the weeks before the red army came the american Soldier had asked me to get him a typical German product which he wanted to take Home As a souvenir. It was impossible for me to get what he wanted at that time. During the years that followed i Wasny to allowed to Contact my Friend. I have forgotten his name but i still remember my Promise to him. Maybe now i will have a Chance to fulfil that Promise. If this Soldier a who must be about 70 years old by now a is still alive i would very much like to find him. He was a caucasian with Black hair was tall and Strong and spoke Spanish in addition to English. Another clue which might help someone identify my Friend on feb. 14, 1945, a four engine Halifax plane crashed into our Village. Seven or eight of the planets nine Crew members died. A couple of american pos sat in front of their Barracks the next Day and carved the names of the dead men into a wooden Cross. Enclosed please find a photo of the pow Camp. The this is How it looked right after the War. What exactly the american Soldier asked me to get for him i done to want to Tell you. He knows and i will be Able to identify him when he tells me this Little secret of ours.
