A fall i did was make a remark jokingly a Ann Beaver of Bloomfield Hills mich., said m a Telephone interview saturday from Atlanta where she was visiting her children. A i said when they told us that a Pilot was on his Way in to staff the plane a i Hope he Hasni to been  i did no to even say  i said  a the scheduled Pilot was unable to get to the Airport. Beaver said she considered the remark harmless and that the incident has been a blown out of  but a flight attendant and the Pilot whom Northwest officials have refused to identify took it seriously. The Pilot took a blood test which showed he had no alcohol in his system the airline said. When the plane finally left Beaver and her husband stayed behind because other passengers were enraged with them Northwest spokesman Douglas Miller said. The couple took another flight Friday morning. Beaver said she made her remark As the replacement Pilot was making a 50-mile drive to the Detroit Airport. A flight attendant repeated her comment when he arrived. The Pilot asked her if she wanted to speak with him. She said the Pilot was in a bad mood because head been called in on his Day off. A i told him i did no to have any concerns that i had made the remark As a joke a Beaver said. Northwest spokesman Bob Gibbons said the airline a did not overreact because she told the Pilot to his face that she was concerned about his ability to  a Stockton calif., Man on the flight said he did hear Beaver ask the Pilot about drinking. A i heard her say a due to All the publicity i was just wondering if you have been partying or drinking while you were on your Way to the flight a a Ray Cathey said. He said the Pilot asked her to repeat the comment and she repeated it. Beaver said she has been made a Scapegoat. A but this was More than a joking remark in the estimation of the Man who was going to Fly the  University dedicates flight 103 memorial Syracuse . Apr the memory of the 35 students killed in the bombing of pan am flight 103 will endure As Long As Syracuse University stands the Chancellor said sunday As the school dedicated its memorial to them. More than 600 people including the families of the victims gathered at the heart of Campus to watch the University unveil a the place of remembrance for its students. The Centrepiece of the memorial is a 4-foot-High, semicircular Limestone Wall. The names of the students Are engraved in an 18-Inch Granite band around the top. The 35 students returning from a semester studying overseas were killed dec. 21, 1988, when a terrorist bomb destroyed the jetliner Over Lockerbie Scotland. A1j 259 people aboard the plane were killed As were 11 others on the ground. The memorial Wall is within a bricked Plaza at the Entrance to the University in front of the Hall of languages the schools oldest building. The pathway leading to the the place of remembrance is lined by double rows of Pear Trees and Heather. A for the next generations of entering students who look upon the place of two students whose Friend perished on flight 103 console each other at dedication. Remembrance. They will know that the students who were lost will be remembered so Long As this University shall stand a said Chancellor Melvin Eggers. A students class after class will gather at this place talk to one another and feel the message that those who have gone ahead have sent a message of High academic standards of being involved in Campus life and of appreciating ones fellow students a Eggers said. The ceremony followed an interfaith service at Syracuse a Hendricks Chapel. Robert bar Roll sr., whose son Steven died in the flight 103 bombing said the dedication ceremony helped switch everyone a focus a Aback to the victims who died instead of the victims who  Allison Gordon president of the student government association spoke of the enduring lesson Learned from the passing of her friends. A a in be Learned that life cannot be measured on a ruler stick marked by years a but rather that life should be measured on a ruler stick marked by  study finds Blacks Are More Likely than Whites to be victims of crimes Washington apr Blacks Are More Likely than Whites to be victims of rape or aggravated assault and Are More than twice As Likely to be robbery victims according to a Federal study released sunday. The rate of such violent crimes occurring against Black americans age 12 or older was 44 per 1,000 compared with 34 per 1,000 Whites in the same age group according to data collected by the Justice departments National crime Survey Between 1979 and 1986. There were 13 robberies per 1,000 Blacks during the seven year period compared with five robberies per 1,000 Whites the study said. The rate of aggravated assaults was 14 per 1,000 Blacks and nine per 1,000 Whites. There were 1.5 rapes per 1,000 Black women compared with 0.8 rapes per 1,000 White women. However Whites were More Likely to be victims of simple assault with a rate of 19 per 1,000 compared to 16 per 1,000 Blacks. Blacks were More Likely to be physically attacked or threatened with violence during the commission of a crime the study said. Among victims of aggravated assault 48 percent were Black while 41 percent were White. In addition Blacks were More Likely to be attacked by someone holding a knife gun or other weapon. The statistics gathered from the Survey showed that 48 percent of Black victims of violent crimes reported facing an armed attacker compared with 33 percent of the White victims of those crimes. The injury rate for Black victims of aggravated assault also was higher than for Whites. Twenty four percent of Black victims compared with 16 percent of Whites sustained serious injuries such As knife or Bullet wounds or broken Bones. Whites were More Likely to be attacked and injured during robberies. Thirty four percent of White robbery victims were injured compared with 28 percent of Blacks. However Blacks were More Likely to be severely injured. Sixty one percent of Black victims who were injured required medical treatment compared with 46 percent of injured White victims. The overnight hospitalization rate for injured Black victims was 8 percent compared with 4 percent for Whites. The data was collected from a nationwide Survey of 50,000 households conducted every six months by the Justice department in which household members Are asked if they have been victims of crimes during the previous six months. The Survey docs not include murder statistics. But the report contained Fri statistics for 1986 showing that the murder rate among Blacks was 31.2 per 100.000 compared with 5.4 per 100,000 Whites. The rate among Black males was 52.3 per 100,000 compared with 7.9 per 100.000 White  sales due real Honor not pie in face Huntington .
