     European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - June 14, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse                                In Bastogne fled during the Battle of the bulge. Those who stayed behind housed and fed the americans As the nazis bombed the City. The civilians huddled in their cellars waiting for the shelling to Stop. Their bedsheets became camouflage covers for the american soldiers in the Snow. Just outside the Eastern Edge of Bastogne is a Concrete Bunker used to guard the Road Junction. It was near the mar Dasson Hill that an american Corporal became the first Allied Soldier to die while defending the City. A Monument honouring the go stands next to the Bunker. The final Milestone of the Voie de la liberte is on the Way up the mar Dasson Hill to the Bastogne historical Center. Stone markers Are placed every mile from Normandy France to Bastogne to commemorate the path in which villages and cities were liberated by the allies in 1944. The Bastogne historical Center which charges a nominal admission fee provides a wealth of knowledge about Bastogne s involvement in the Battle of the bulge. The Center has on display uniforms vehicles weapons photographs and written documents to give More insight. A Cinema uses Black and White photographs and English narration to offer its account of history. Quot it was neat to see them Back then to see some of them smiling in the film Quot said Hunt 13, of Bastogne s citizens. Quot there must be been some great people to last that Long against the  the most vivid documentation of the Battle is clearly produced on a circular display with a video map tracing Day by Day movements of the nazi and american strategical positions. I knew of Bastogne but i never realized that it was As heavily beat As the germans tried to get into it because it was strategically  other Points of interest on the Trail include the Trier Gate the Gen. George s. Patton memorial nut s cellar and the mar Dasson memorial a five Star Monument that Points to each of the directions from which the German army attacked the City. Harvey Culpepper said he planned the trip to Bastogne to help educate his scouts on Why their parents were involved with the military.
