A cafes criticized for response to article i saw the article a can cafes take a joke a apparently not. President Bush and most of our Public officials Are joked about every Day by the Media. Do they write to the editor and say a you can to do that a or Quot in a not pleased. No because Public officials and service oriented businesses like cafes must expect a certain amount of criticism from the Public be it constructive or destructive. My father had a saying a hit dog it Means the one who voices his opinion the loudest about something is usually the one who is guilty. Cafes cannot compete with stores in the United states their sales show that. Could it be that those a a slogans hit too close to Home sgt. 1st class rec key Ozinger Bremerhaven West Germany the recent article about a fest overreaction to the overseas Magazine a a slogan contest shows the total impunity with which cafes views both its Mission an a a customers. Cafes must feel that it is beyond criticism. Coming Down on overseas Magazine is a sad example of shooting the messenger instead of Reading the message. A. If cafes did an . Nielsen Survey of customer attitudes rather than prices they would get the same answers without the sense of humor. Instead of sending in Dallas Quot enforcers they should have thanked overseas for providing a valuable Public forum. Does cafes imagine that overseas invented the entries of course running a worldwide merchandising Chain is a Complex task. I too appreciate a fest efforts to make my life better Here in Europe. The mean spirited stomping of overseas was inappropriate and missed the Point. This reaction detracts from the Fine things that cafes really does. A Ronald Diehl Wiesbaden West Germany who cares if cafes can take a joke or not As far As i a overseas Magazine is not printed for the enjoyment of the cafes officials in Dallas but for those of us know overseas Magazine ment of the cafes official serving overseas and enduring the cafes Quot system. Believe me the general consensus among the troops is that the cafes column in question was dam funny and maybe what a not so funny fairly truthful what really angered me however was to see the overseas editorial staff go belly up. In the first Case in a sure most of the overseas readers thought the article was funny and in Good taste remember the slogans were sent in by cafes customers. Secondly i can to believe that the a party line atoms ment column was actually Nin. This action is really in bad taste and As or. Kaufman puts it a a impish a finally i really can to believe that a a a Courtesy copy of the article was sent to cafes. For what purpose comment suggestions for improvement censorship Are the chains of restricted free speech being cast off All Over the world Only to have a link added by cafes and the overseas editorial staff if cafes Dallas really wants a laugh they should be forced to be a consumer solely within their own system for a three year tour. No target no k Mart no Wal Mart. The list goes on and on. Unfortunately they not isolated cases nor Are the frequencies of occurrence and they Are the reason for cafes being the object of Many a Good and bad. The Point is the focus should not be on quelling the humor or the humorist but fixing the system. Wake up and smell the Coffee cafes the reason there Are so Many jokes about you is because there Are problems to be worked numerous and aggravating to your customers and to make a joke about it is sometimes the Only Way to Handte Ohe frustration or Jeff Grimm a Ramstein a West Germany a built in safeguards of new yes explained i was told at my last base that the new enlisted performance rating system was to replace the old inflated airman performance rating system. This is supposed to eliminate inflated ratings. Now that i am at my second base i have heard that people Are inflating the system. The system that i am talking about is the per. This is to ensure that an airman or a noncommissioned officers career is not injured by one per. What safeguards have been implemented to Slop this inflation a senior airman Jerry l. Waters in Ciurlik Turkey editor s note a tech sgt. Lee Wayman chief Media relations he air Force military personnel Center Randolph fab Texas replies there Are several a a safeguards interwoven into the enlisted evaluation system yes to curb rating and endorsement inflation. The a a safeguard to reduce endorsement inflation is the senior Rater philosophy which establishes the Ratee a senior Rater As the highest possible endorser on senior enlisted performance reports. This policy also stipulates that the Rater and raters Rater Are mandatory evaluators a and that voluntary escalation up to the senior Rater is Only allowed on master sergeant through chief master sergeant reports. This policy guarantees that the evaluation process remains at Levels closest to the Ratee. The a a safeguards initiated to Dampen rating inflation Are a Little More Complex. First verbal anchors were added to the evaluation of performance factors and promotion recommendation in order to provide All air Force evaluators with a Standard understanding of what each Block meant. For instance a Mark in the far right Block of Section Iii item 1, says the Ratee a duty performance is the absolute Best it could be a no room for improvement. Second enlisted performance report per rating expectations have been established to give each Rater a better understanding what expectations for ratings Are under the revised yes. These expectations provide a common set of reference Points to make sure rating officials across the air Force use the same Standard. Another a a safeguard is the development of a senior Rater information system which provides rating statistics or trends to each senior Rater their a a Bossy and their major command. The information reports should serve to increase awareness throughout the air Force and result in a reduction of inflation tendencies. Other ongoing programs such As an increase in yes educational activities and effective performance feedback will help ensure All raters evaluate duty performance honestly and with integrity. As you can see there Isnit any single magic answer that can be implemented to reverse Over 20 years of continued inflation. It will take everyone s concentrated efforts to ensure the revised yes maintains its effectiveness As an honest evaluation of an individuals Safe full ipes. European edition col Gene e.
