New Jersey boosted its sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent making it the second highest of any states after Connecticut a 8 percent and just ahead of Washington a 6.5 percent. The sales tax also has been extended to some previously exempt goods and services. The excise tax on a pack of cigarettes went up by 13 cents and a tax on Petroleum products will add about 2 cents to the Cost of a gallon of gasoline.
