Steinbrenner will have no further involvement in the management of the new York Yankees or in the Day to Day operations of that club a Vincent said in announcing the decision. The agreement came following a Daylong meeting in the commissioners office and was the result of a 4-month investigation into Steinbrenner a $40,000 payment to Howard Spira. Steinbrunner must resign As general partner by aug. 20, when someone will be appointed to take his place subject to the approval of Vincent and the other major league teams. The 60-Ycar-old Steinbrenner will be allowed to consult on major business decisions involving the Yankees but cannot participate in player deals. On wednesday Arkansas expects to join the Sec a move that would end the University a 76-year Alliance with the Sec. A a it a not Good news. The move Marks the second time this year a major conference has taken in a new school. In May the big ten conference added Penn state a football Independent but a member of the Atlantic-10 conference in other sports. Arkansas president b. Alan Sugg said the schools Board will meet wednesday in Fayetteville Ark., to discuss the secs proposal. Sugg said both he and Fayetteville Campus Chancellor Dan Ferritor would recommend then that the Razorbacks leave the Sec. Sec commissioner Roy Kramer would not confirm the move. His season ended with a batting average of .158 in 57 games and Home run no. 3 in his final game sunday afternoon. Before his departure however he challenged a statement by the Yankees organization that he had requested the contract Extension. He criticized teammates who had complained about an inexperienced teammate possibly earning a major contract. A the Yankees statement issued monday said that a request by Sanders for a $1 million contract for the ll>91 season had been rejected by George Stcin Bren Ner the principal owner. The statement came several hours be fore Steinbrenner was permanently banned by the baseball commissioner Fay Vincent from any further involvement in the management or Day to Day operations of the team. Steinbrenner was quoted in the statement. A under no circumstances could we offer Deion that kind of salary for the 1991 season. Even so we still would like Deion to continue with the Yankees and wish him Well in whatever he chooses to  Sanders maintained that the Yankees had raised the economic possibilities in an Effort to persuade him to remain with the team.
