Phantom is showing in Hamburg where a new theater a the Neue Flora a was built expressly for the production. A new theater a the Starlight Halle a also was built in bochum for Starlight express. Webber composed the music for both productions and for such hits As Evita Jesus Christ superstar and cats. Phantom made its debut on oct. 9, 1986, in London and opened on Broadway on Jan. 26, 1988. In new York it earned seven Tony awards including one for Best musical. In new York Michael Crawford and Judy Kaye were phantom s headliners winning Tony awards for Best actor and actress. In Hamburg the Lead roles Are filled by a German pop and opera Singer Peter Hofmann and a Canadian born actress Anna Maria Kaufmann.
