Shoppers in the old City have a wide Choice of options ranging from pricey antique and jewelry stores to the inevitable tourist shops and kiosks Selling postcards trinkets and to shirts. The flavor of the City is a combination of Alpine rustic and old world cosmopolitan. You will see men in Loden jackets and knickers and women in dirndl but most of the professionals could easily fit in on the streets of Paris Frankfurt or Milan. The area around Salzburg the province of the same name is one of the most spectacular Scenic areas of Austria. Depending on the time of year it offers excellent opportunities for sightseeing As Well As Active outdoor sports such As skiing hiking fishing swimming and boating. One of the More popular outings is to the Cable car on the 6,100-foot  tips this View of the City is from the ramparts of the Hohe Salzburg fortress. Salzburg is easily reachable by air rail and Highway. If you re driving from Munich take autobahn a-8, the Munich Salzburg autobahn and then a-1. Get of at either the Salzburg West or Salzburg Mitte exit. Depending on the traffic and How fast you drive you should be in Salzburg Between an hour and an hour and a half after leaving Munich. Like Many european cities Salzburg s on Street parking is severely limited but the City has a number of Public parking areas. The biggest 1,500 parking places is the Altstadt underground garage inside the Monch Berg Only a Block from the old City. Taking the Salzburg West exit puts you on route 1 Insbrucker Bunde Strasser local Highway. Go past the Airport the Road actually goes under the runway and continue on to the major intersection with Max Glaner Haup Strasse not quite a mile past the Airport. Turn right onto Max Glaner Haup Strasse which becomes neut Strasse and watch for the Quot a Quot signs that indicate the parking garage. The main train station is about three quarters of a mile from the Center of the old City on the right Bank of the Sal Zach. City buses Are available for those who would rather not walk it. There Are tourist information offices in the train station and in the old City at Mozar Platz 5. The City has Many hotels and pensions As Well As six youth hostels two Are open year round and several campgrounds. In addition to the Salzburg festival from the end of july to the end of August the City hosts the easter festival a Mozart week and the Whitsuntide concerts. There Are also other musical events throughout the year. During the major festivals accommodations and tickets Are at a Premium. If you would like to visit Salzburg during one of them it would be Wise to Book Well in Advance. The armed forces recreation Center offers Tours to Salzburg from its Berchtesgaden and Chi Emsee facilities. The Chi Emsee Tours Are All Day outings.
