She believed she was not at risk because she worked with children. Unfortunately the Needle was contaminated with hepatitis b virus. The nurse became infected and was out of work for five months. A Security guard came to the Rescue of a bleeding gunshot victim who had been dumped on the Hospital Steps. The guard later got hepatitis b. An orthopaedic surgeon in Texas nicked his Finger during a surgical procedure on a patient who was an unidentified hepatitis b Carrier. Within Days he was critically ill with hepatitis b and had to have a liver transplant. A medical resident thought he had the flu but continued to care for patients. When finally examined his blood chemistry revealed you guessed it hepatitis b. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he went into acute kidney failure. Fortunately he recovered but How Many patients did he infect before he knew he had hepatitis a did he transmit the disease to his wife and child chances Are that he did. All of these people risked their lives and careers because they chose not to be vaccinated. They thought being careful was enough and did no to worry about becoming infected. The incidence of hepatitis b in this country is alarming. If you Are at risk you should protect yourself against hepatitis b virus infection by taking an injection of the hepatitis b vaccine. A Thelma King Thiel american liver foundation . Box 28, Cedar Grove . 07009. Dear Thelma thank you for the Alert while your letter seems to be aimed at health care professionals the information is something we All need to be aware of. If any member of the family gets hepatitis bit is Wise to Check with a physician about getting the vaccine. Dear Ann Landers my wife died in 1977 after a Long illness. Several months ago i married a family Friend who was divorced. Over the years we had spent a lot of time together As couples. My present wife and i Are enjoying what i believe is a Good marriage with one exception. I have an office in my Home which i use for business and also As a Little Retreat. I have several pictures on the Walls of Many places and people who Are dear to me including of course photos of my deceased wife children and grandchildren. My wife objects to the pictures of my deceased wife saying that she is my wife now and All the pictures of my first wife should be put away. Last night she brought up the subject again and said a How would you like it if i put a picture of my Exon the Wall a i am not going to let this ruin my marriage and will put my first wife a pictures in a drawer before ill let that happen. I honestly feel that she is wrong however and would appreciate your opinion. A sounding Board wanted in Santa Barbara dear Santa Barbara the comparison of a beloved deceased wife and a divorced husband is a poor one. Those pictures should remain on the Wall and i Hope you will not knuckle under. It sounds As if this woman is envious of the relationship you had with your first wife. Too bad she is so insecure. This letter is written concerning the new haircut trends within our brigade and other brigades also the ways in which they conflict with the army regulations on haircut policy in accordance with a 670-1 and lastly the Lack of enforcement of these regulations from first sergeants on Down who Are also accepting and even partaking in these fad haircuts. We feel its time some action be taken to instill the Correct military appearance and Standard. The Many different styles Range from a a a boxy that Sticks up Between two to four inches to lines shaved into the sides and Back of the head at various lengths widths and angles. Some even have coloured strips of hair integrated into the Box. Regardless of the neat shaved appearance on the sides and Back this Box look with shaved lines and occasionally coloured strips presents a very Unmil itary and unprofessional appearance. A 670-1 clearly states the haircut will not be an extreme or fad style but will be neatly groomed and tapered and will not interfere with the wearing of the Blu Cap. Needless to say when the Blu Cap is placed atop one of these creations it is barely clinging to the head instead it just rests on top of the hair itself Many May ask Why Isnit the haircut policy being enforced from first line supervisors on up the reason is this Many squad leaders platoon sergeants and even first sergeants Are sporting these haircuts themselves. The leaders Are setting the example for their soldiers unfortunately their Standard is substandard and extremely faddish. Of course this problem can be quickly eliminated before it grows worse. Its time for cos to read the Standard set in a 670-1 and identify haircuts that miss the Mark including their own. Until recently i have never Felt the urge to write and publicly address any kind of Issue but i am fed up with today a Soldier. Not with the Soldier that takes Pride in being an american and has the kind of morals and values that a member of the . Army should have but rather with the Soldier that i read about almost daily. I am talking about the countless soldiers that Are arrested for attempted murder assault sodomy rape child abuse child molestation and All of the other criminal acts that seem to be taking place in today a society. What has happened to the men and women serving in the armed forces i have always taken Pride in the fact that i am an american and a military dependent but recently i have begun to wonder if i actually should take Pride in if a military Retiree obtains a position As a civilian with the government in the same location where he retires after a six month waiting period from the retirement Date is the individual authorized to receive the monthly rental allowance for living quarters designated for civilians a name and location withheld Bob Jennings action officer civilian personnel division office of the Deputy chief of staff personnel he Usa eur replies the eligibility requirements for granting la to employees who Are hired in the overseas area Are As follows prior to the civil service appointment the employee must have been recruited from the United states for employment in the overseas area and had substantially a High and tights Are great but these new fad haircuts present a High and mutated appearance. If dyes tints or bleaches Are used colors must be natural to human hair. Regardless of style a soldiers hair must be kept neat and clean. It is incumbent upon All leaders at All Levels to actively enforce the army a haircut policy. If there Are cos within your unit who Are in violation of this policy tactfully remind them of the standards. Good cos will appreciate this and Correct themselves. That. Reading about the child abuse Case concerning the sergeant in bad Kreuz Nach sickened me to my stomach. Never had i thought that any human being could be capable of such cruelty. How am i to Trust the Soldier who has taken an oath to protect me and my country when All i read or hear about is their base morals and values no wonder the children of my generation and younger ones Are so distrustful and dishonest. Look at the examples they have to follow i Hope that one Day these so called soldiers see what kind of damaging effect they Are having on the world. Considering the Type of soldiers i am addressing i doubt that they will.
