However the National Academy of sciences panel also renewed the statements of two earlier Academy panels that More fundamental changes Are necessary to a protect the Public from health risks prevalent in Modem production marketing and food preparation  none of the inspection systems now in use or being tested by the food safety and inspection service is a designed to detect or eliminate microbial or chemical hazards presented by meat products a the panel said. Because of that the inspection system is More attuned to assuring meat Quality than safety. A the Federal government should design its inspection programs to focus on contemporary Public health issues a the panel said in recommending development of a Well designed Hazard analysis critical control Point based food safety  Hazard analysis provides a More specific approach to microbiological hazards than traditional inspection.
