Apr a judge issued an arrest warrant monday for a Man accused of staging a dogfight for a Kunc to reporter who was filming a series on pit Bull fighting that has Cost the reporter her Job. Jefferson county District judge Gaspar Perri Cone issued the warrant for Guy Walker who faces two counts of dog fighting after Walker failed to appear at a court hearing. Walkers lawyer Antonio Lucero said his client could not find transportation. The other three defendants in the Case a former Kunc reporter Wendy Bergen and former station photographers Scott Wright and Jim Stair a appeared before Perricone with their lawyers. The fights allegedly were staged for Bergens televised series a blood sport a an exposed of underground dog fighting that was broadcast during the May ratings a a sweeps period. Bergen who was indicted on nine felony charges is accused of arranging the fights paying for them lying about the source of the videotape lying to Kunc management and encouraging a Friend to lie to the grand jury. She had claimed the tape was sent to her anonymously. She and the two photographers resigned from Kunc. Perricone scheduled a hearing for dec. 14 and a tentative trial Date of feb. 4. The judge denied defense motions to bar cameras from the courtroom. Bergen spoke Only briefly at the hearing saying Only a yes i do a when asked if she understood her rights and the charges against her. Bergens lawyers said earlier they plan to Challenge evidence obtained from her through the use of an informant wired with a hidden microphone. Bergen allegedly talked freely with Mark j. La Briola a Friend who had told Bergen that he had connections with dog fighters and who was wearing a microphone. Labriola who admitted helping Bergen stage several dogfights had made a Deal with prosecutors granting him immunity from prosecution. Defense attorneys contend that it was improper for prosecutors to Send in their a a agent with a hidden microphone after Bergens attorney prevented prosecutors from directly asking her certain questions. The defendants were indicted in september on 15 felony charges for allegedly staging pit Bull fights and lying to the grand jury. Stair and Wright face charges of accessory to a crime and conspiracy to commit perjury. Stair also has been indicted on one count each of dog fighting and conspiracy to commit a dogfight.
