That s the word from Markus Rehmet a Young collector and part time dealer in Golden Oldie recordings. Rehmet spends his weekends travelling to record fairs around Germany Selling albums and singles from the 50s and 60s. Singles Are where the big Money will be he says. As happened with the old 78s, production of 45s has All but stopped. Rehmet s most expensive single is a limited edition Quot test release Quot of 50s Rock n roller Eddie Cochran s Skinny Jim and undying love. Released in 1962 a two years after Cochran s death a it features both songs recorded on Only one Side. The going Price just 300 Marks about $200. Rehmet s next most expensive single drops All the Way Down to 100 Marks about $66. That s for buddy Holly s 1962 tune reminiscing backed by wait til the Sun shines Nellie. But Holly s 57 hit Peggy sue with of boy can be had for just 80 Marks about $53. Prices of the singles depend on several factors says Rehmet. These include the number of records originally released those that came out on Small Independent labels Are rarer than those released on major Label location of release records released in Germany for instance Are fewer in number than those released in the United states and of course the condition of the record As Well As its cover. The albums and singles Rehmet Sells at the fairs Are for the most part duplicates of what he already has at Home which he bought from friends or at Flea markets and record fairs around Europe. What is missing from his personal collection he says and what he spends his time looking for Are Elvis Presley s Early recordings released on the Sun records Label. Singles from this collection can go for up to 500 Marks $333 and 78s up to 1,000 Marks about $666. You Don t have to be an avid record collector willing to spend big Bucks to enjoy record fairs. If you Are looking fora bargain in albums cassettes Bootleg tapes picture discs even cd a you la find it a provided you Don t mind used merchandise though some of the items Are new. Videotapes posters to shirts books and assorted other music Memorabilia Are also available. Record fairs cover the whole Gamut of music styles a from oldies to new wave hard Rock to heavy Metal soul Funk and disco to rap and House music Punk jazz country and classical. So whether you re looking for a copy of that Long lost beatles album or a recording of an Early led Zeppelin concert or that missing Pink Floyd release you need to Complete your collection you May just find it at a record fair.
