I a writer says funds should be reviewed turning Auto Craft shops and recreational facilities into non appropriated fund Naf operations have come at a worse time if there was Ever a Good time. They Are being forced to operate on Money recycled within their own communities without any outside assistance and to turn a profit to boots arts and crafts within the military came about out of therapeutic need during world wars i and ii. It was found that soldiers rehabilitation was a lot quicker if they took part in meaningful activities. The army even wrote extensive manuals on Basic crafts such As woodworking and ceramics. Partly on the basis of the military experience the profession of occupational therapy was born. A Quot a. A a a today the military spends huge amounts of Money on drug and alcohol rehabilitation financial counselling for gamblers and prison custody of offenders. On any Post you can find soldiers whiling away their time at video and Slot machines. A but the funds generated help with mar you say. Maybe. Meanwhile family members entertain themselves at cafes with the a shop a til you drop a philosophy digging themselves deeper into debt and misery and also adding to the mar fund. These Days arc filled with anxiety. People will do whatever they can to regain some sense of control Over their lives. The resourceful soldiers and family members Are doing crafts pounding nails painting playing instruments and fixing their cars a to save Money but also to feel Good about themselves. The not so resourceful reach for a bottle or a on armed Bandit to try to master their environment. Presently we Are running our communities on the sickness of our own society a we Are promoting alcoholism gambling addiction and unsound shopping habits with easy credit at cafes. Yet we Are abandoning the positive aspects of the communities through Naf funding the Craft centers. They cannot Hope to succeed at being run As Standard businesses. I propose that these recreational parts of the military communities overseas be reverted to appropriated funds and acc be made Naf. At least the brighter segment of the military Community would not be paying for the others bad habits and acc would probably add a handsome chunk to mar accounts As Well. Further More it would be a Good idea if commanders told their troops a they Soldier get a a name withheld Mannheim Germany a troops passed up better paying jobs in the article a opposition to War a the writers termed our . Forces As they went further by stating a fall Volunteer forces tend to attract people without other Means to make a on behalf of All the officers and men of 1st in 3rd marines id like to say thanks for nothing. Its bad enough to serve in a harsh environment like this away from family and friends but to be also characterized As Lazy bums lacking education really smarts. The vast majority of men in this battalion joined for such passe reasons As patriotism Pride and a sense of responsibility. Many of us passed up better paying jobs on the outside in order to serve. All the marines who have enlisted have certainly foregone chances at an easier less risky lifestyle. In a sure the same holds True for All the other servicemen and women Here in the persian Gulf. When we raised our right hands and swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United states we did it because we believe in America not because we get a Job anywhere else. A capt. Scott j. Fazekas a written during operation desert shield a help urged for All left behind spouses the following letter was written before the Start of operation desert storm sounds like brainchild Dennis Menard of Baum hold or had a Good idea about spouse cards for those whose spouse had deployed. I am sure a lot of desert shield remaining spouses think so also. I bet there arc also a lot of non desert shield remaining spouses who say a what about me my sponsor has been sent to the Field or my sponsor is on an extended to Dye All sponsors Are supposed to Settle As Many matters As possible before they leave Home. Seems like the Deputy Community commander would want to ensure that All remaining spouses Are Given every possible Means of cutting through the red tape not just desert shield remaining spouses. Help where needed should be As easy to obtain for one spouse As it is for another. A master sgt. Charles a. Cramer Rota Spain a writer says forget anti War protesters let me give you the opinion of a Middle class american citizen whose viewpoints reflect those of most of my friends family and neighbors. In a proud of you. My family is proud of you. My friends and neighbors Are proud of you. A please done to let the news of those protesting in the streets of America distress you. Perhaps if i or my friends did no to have to go to work every Day to earn a living wed be Able to stage county protests in support of you. But i suppose that a Why we called the silent majority. Think about the anti War protesters As lost souls who will Latch on to any cause available for Lack of anything better to do. We America Are behind you la percent. A Don Tomic Fremont Calif.
