Patrese who started from the pole position battled throughout with Mansell who started along mexican up Side the italian in the front Row. A Trcic who took the Lead on tile 15th Lap was ahead thereafter although he was never free of Mansell. Ayrton Senna of Brazil the Leader in the season points., Chase also matched his starting position by finishing third. It was the second defeat in a Row for Senna a Mclaren Honda which dominated earlier in the season by winning the first four races of the year. Patrese averaged 122.489 Mph for 67 laps of the 1.747-Milc circuit finishing 1.336 seconds ahead of Mansell. Mansell tried to pass Patrese just before the Homestretch but was unable to get by. A at first i had a problem controlling my tires a said Patrese whose engine also had some heating problems.
