European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - July 6, 1991, Darmstadt, Hesse I i Ann Landers dear Ann Landers with today a families having larger Homes and More open attitudes i find that kids Are into staying with each other overnight much More than they were years ago. This is True for boys As Well As girls. When my son a a Bart was very Young he rarely stayed overnight with any of his playmates. In the last two years however he has been doing More of this with one particular boy who has been asking him to stay Over about two or three times a week. Whenever Bart and his pal a a half Are together in the evening playing sports doing Homework talking to girls on the phone or after going to a show or a dance it never fails a i get a phone Call from Bart asking if he can stay overnight with Hal. I hate to be a Killjoy but in be been saying no lately and getting a lot of Static sometimes to the Point of belligerence. The Only time there is no argument is when i remind him that he has a game the next Day. Bart is 15 now too old to be spending so Many nights with a pal. Is there an age when this sort of thing should taper off or Stop also could there be something unsavoury about this relationship Hal comes from a Nice family and has Good parents and two Sweet Sisters. 1 should add that Hal asks Bart to go everywhere with him including visits to relatives shopping with his parents school and sports events. Our Home life is not nearly As stable As Halls so dear Abby dear Abby because of your vast readership i am writing to you in the Hope that by printing my letter other women and probably some men will learn from my mistakes. Three years ago i had a torrid affair with a Man right after my divorce. This Guy was so charming that before i got Wisest him and broke off the relationship i Lent him a considerable sum of Money.-1 had no promissory note so All was lost. A year later i met someone i thought was perfect for me. He was absolutely beguiling attentive As could be and he made me feel terrific. He was very Well thought of and an outstanding Man in the Community. A few months ago he was Short of Money so i Lent him my entire savings with the understanding that i would be repaid in full within the next few weeks. I was a in love a trusted him and did no to want to a a insult him by asking him to sign a note. Well so far in be heard every excuse in the Book As to Why he can to pay me Back and in a afraid this will have to be settled in court. Also i am dealing with the humiliating realization that this Guy never really gave a Hoot about me. I made two major mistakes lending the Money in the first place and not getting it in writing. Abby please find room for this As a warning to other women who let their hearts Rule their Heads. Ripped off in Colorado saturday july 6, 1991 maybe this is part of the problem. Can you give me some insight sign me. A dad in Manchester to. Dear dad i agree this sounds like too much make some new rules dad. No More sleep overs on school nights. Period. Also they must alternate houses. Encourage Bart to include a third boy and Widen his Circle of friends. Good Luck. Dear Ann Landers i went to a bridal Shower last saturday. About 100 Young women were there. There was a Nice lunch and the conversation was great. Now the problem the Bride started to open her gifts. Before Long the bridesmaid and the Flower girl began to rip the paper off the gifts and pass them to the Bride. I Don t mean loosening the wrapping i mean ripping it off. I know that Many of us spent $4 or $5 to buy pretty paper and ribbon but when our gifts reached the Bride they were in a Plain Box. What a your opinion Ann ill be watching to see. Faithful Reader in Pennsylvania dear Penn you be made a valid Point. The Bride should have the pleasure of opening All the gifts herself. Those Overly eager hands should be told a i appreciate your willingness to help but 1 love unwrapping these c creators Syndicate the stars and stripes today a crossword Page 19 dear ripped off nobody can Tell it like the person who has been there. Too bad you will never know How Many women will Benefit from Reading this letter. Dear Abby after putting on a wedding for our daughter 1 feel the Public could use some does and done to on wedding etiquette. 1. Always respond to an invitation when a stamped addressed card and envelope Are provided to . The hostess needs a a yes i am coming a or a sorry i cannot Many people respond Only to say they Are planning to attend. 2. If you do accept the invitation please come to the reception a a your Host and hostess must pay for your reservation. We had to foot the Bill for eight dinners at $25 a person for people who accepted but did not show up a cancellation up to five Days before the big event is usually enough to avoid this problem. 3 please do not include on your response card any More family members or friends than have been invited. Reservations Are limited and it is rude to add extra uninvited guests. If it is crucial for an added guest to come please ask the hostess for permission to do so. 4. After accepting a wedding reception invitation it is in Good taste to Send a gift. Thank you Abby for helping me air my frustrations. Mother of the Bride in York a.
