Apr an explosion and a fire levelled three buildings saturday killing one woman injuring 34 others and causing $2 million in damage. The six alarm fire damaged a dozen other buildings Deputy state fire marshal Bob Thomas said. A tenant from one of the buildings 43-year-old Susan Monsoon was found dead under tons of rubble 12 hours after the 9 . Explosion. Rescue dogs helped search for Monsoon whose husband said she was trapped in the Kitchen of their first floor apartment when the three Story building collapsed upon them. Up a a Man who dared his Girlfriend to set him on fire was in critical condition at a medical Center Burn unit police said saturday. Douglas Miller suffered second and third degree Burns Over 40 percent of his body during a dispute Friday in which he doused himself with gasoline and challenged his Girlfriend Diana Wallace 37, to set him ablaze police said. Wallace used a cigarette lighter to ignite Miller 34, in the garage of the Home they shared sgt. Terry broker said. Neighbors rushed into the garage to Aid Miller and Sturgis firefighters extinguished the Blaze. There was nonsignificant damage to the House broker said. Miller was taken to Sturgis Hospital and transferred to Bronson medical Center in Kalamazoo. Wallace was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. She was released on Bond Friday. Caused by a propane leak at Rapposelli a sub shop which had been closed for two Days prior to reopening under new management. Thomas said several residents smelled Gas Friday night but failed to report it. The explosion levelled the shop a building housing two businesses and two apartments and a five unit apartment building. Buildings across the Street had windows blown out and some were lifted off their foundations by the Force Thomas said. The damaged buildings included a nearby nursing Home where 12 residents were evacuated Thomas said. Trooper first class Stanley Wilson 29, was on patrol when the explosion occurred. Wilson rescued a Man and a woman from the burping apartment building before firefighters arrived Thomas said. About 100 firefighters from five fire departments in Cecil and Harford counties battled the Blaze. Thomas said 24 civilians and 10 firefighters were taken to Harford memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation cuts and scrapes. Two people who were admitted for treatment of smoke inhalation were reported in stable condition saturday afternoon. The others were released. Perryville is a town of 2,000 in northeastern Maryland. For 45 minutes saturday in their fourth Day of talks to come up with a tas plan to end the impasse and enable 20,000 furloughed state employees to return to work. Democratic leaders continued their discussions after Weicker left their offices for the Day. But even without Progress in the talks it appeared Likely that monday could be the last Day of the partial shutdown ordered by the governor. Weicker has until then to sign or veto a temporary budget Resolution passed by the House and Senate or it win take effect without his signature. Any veto would be overridden legislators said. Connecticut has been without a budget since monday the Start of the new fiscal year. The legislature twice has passed various tax increases of $ 1 billion. But Weicker has vetoed both plans
