The homosexual Community is still the highest a at risk group in society for acquiring and transmitting the disease. It would not be Cost effective to recruit train equip and pay a person who stands a better than average Chance of being medically separated. Also lets not forget the Chance of disease transmittal via blood transfusions and by contamination to medical personnel via body fluids. In be been a Navy Hospital corpsman for 20 years. In be served with the Marine corps aboard ships and in submarines. One of the most gut wrenching exper fences of my career was when i was stationed at Bethesda naval Hospital in Maryland. During my tenure there i watched hundreds of Young people be processed and treated for the disease. Most of them will die from it. Why take the Chance of spreading it even More maybe its not fashionable to take this approach toward allowing homosexuals in the armed forces but doing the right thing is not always the most popular solution. More Money and Effort spent for research and treatment is the right thing. A senior chief Petty officer . Coppola Naples Italy one smokers defense in response to the letter about smokers i am a 14-year Veteran of military service to my country out of love not need. I have six years of College education and a 4.0 Grade Point average in engineering. I have attended 21 formal in residence militant courses and have graduated with distinguished honors from those that gave such ratings. I have completed 19 military correspond dance i have served As a Crew chief on fighter aircraft worked As a radar controller both on the ground and aboard a acs helped in research and development of the current air Force radar system and As a Pilot in command in the army. I am a test Pilot on ch-47d helicopters with Over 1,500 flight hours. Uncle Sam and the american taxpayer have invested Over $5 million in my training education and experience. 1 can and have gone anywhere in the world my country has asked me to on a moments notice. I am not unique to army aviation. My Peers have about the same level of training education and experience. Sure go ahead and Boot me out of the military. Ill take my training and education and Market it to some High paying corporation and give up living in tents and training the new folks who done to need me anymore. In a not asking you and yours to condone what i do just get off the crusade and mind your own business. I done to Force myself or my habits on anyone. And please Stop telling me How bad it is for me and How dangerous it is to my health. A Fella with my in and education can figure it out for himself oops or herself. Yes 1 admit it. In a guilty. Hang me i smoke. So there a. A chief warrant officer 2 Marks Morgan Fin then Germany no time in smoking i am tired of hearing people degrade others simply because they choose to smoke i am 36 years old. I have been in the military 14 years i have seen soldiers my age smoke like a Chimney including myself and out work and out run other soldiers 10 years younger who do not smoke. Apparently the majority of the people making the complaints Haven to taken a Good look around. For the writer from Frankfurt Germany to suggest a a booting a person out of the military because he she elects to smoke is totally absurd. He makes it sound As if smoking is a crime on the same level As illegal drugs. In Case you done to know cigarettes Are perfectly Legal. Yes the military has rules and regulations that smokers must abide by. Yes we must now go outside to smoke. Whose fault is that certainly not the smokers and from what i have seen we smokers have complied thoroughly. Horvathy a letter in which he chastises a previous writer who complained about loud rude a a ugly americans. First he downplays a serious problem by saying that a some of us get a Little loud Quot then he implies that because non americans also behave rudely americans Are excused for doing so. 1 laughed when i read about correcting such behaviour a on the maybe a command sergeant major can do so but what do you think the offenders response would be to Joe no either violent or unprintable or both. Then he gives the famous cop out by telling the writer to get out of the army if he does no to like the situation. Sounds like a love it or leave it to me. That attitude was a Stinker during the Vietnam Era and it sure Hasni to improved with age. I too am sometimes embarrassed to be an american and like the writer of the original letter id like to shame my fellow americans into cleaning up their act. The worst thing about Horvathy a letter though is that he never addresses the problem. He shrugs it off and then attacks the one who identified it. I wonder if he plans to run for Public office when he retires tech. Sgt. Philip Kluberdanz Raf Mildenhall England when in Rome. We As americans take for granted that we re from one of the worlds greatest most powerful and influential countries. We have a right to be proud. We do not however have the right to be arrogant about it while we Are in another country. We should not expect that country to Cater to our every need and letters to the editor accept our every idiosyncrasy. Its much easier to remember a bad example than a Good example. We As american service members and families Are sending out a signal to our Host country of what America is really like a Good or bad. Germans hearing other germans playing loud music in Germany probably wont take notice to it As much As americans playing loud music in Germany because they re in Germany. A rude american in Britain will definitely attract More attention than a rude briton in Britain. Like it or not we re a minority. We re easy to classify into a different group. That a life. We have to act on our Best behaviour. Does this mean that in a ashamed to be an american no Way i would not be in the air Force if i did no to love my country. It does show that having respect and Courtesy for your Host country will generate a More positive Outlook on America. The locals will be a lot More Friendly and receptive toward americans. Try it out it really works. A senior airman Keith d. Sherwood Raf Lakenheath England embarrassing Exchange i recently witnessed an embarrassing situation at the Ramstein a main Exchange. I phoned the District manager to identify this problem but after a full workday my Call was never returned. I was in the card shop when i overheard a female manager rudely reprimand the cashier. Please understand that i was in the rear of the shop while the checkout is in the front. Unfortunately there were several other customers who surely must have witnessed this act. Apparently As the cashier was preparing to Start her workday before the shop was open a Vendor allowed customers to enter the shop. There must have been a Small confrontation and the cashier called her supervisor on the intercom for assistance. The Gist of this letter is the Exchange manager verbally reprimanded the employee with no concern As to who might hear it. At the same time she told the employee she should never allow customers to know there is a problem. Isnit it ironic that As she lectured All the customers were made aware of not one problem but two. This manager embarrassed customers and Cashiers with her unprofessional counselling techniques. If cafes is Able to give away More than $240,000 in Cash and prizes in a a Welcome Home sweepstakes Kaiserslautern Community alone perhaps it should invest some of those binds in training managers in areas of human relations or if nothing else in employee relations.
