Lopez of cob 63rd signal in in Sermersheim Germany for Nightmare s revenge. Lopez will also receive $500 in savings Bonds and an etched Crystal plaque. Cpl. George b. Shaw of he Btry 3rd in 17th Field arty in Ansbach Germany won third place in the epic poem category with his entry memories of tomorrow. Shaw was one of 128 who sent in epic poems and will receive $500 in savings Bonds and an etched Crystal plaque. Staff sgt. Steven j. Harris of he co 34th signal in in Heilbronn Germany was chosen by lbs commentator and european stars and stripes alumnus Andy Rooney for honorable mention for his entry Sand Sand everywhere. Harris one of two honorable mentions chosen out of 44 entries will receive a $100 savings Bond and a Metal engraved wooden plaque. Chief warrant officer 4 William j. Harrison of co a 9th in 227th regt an aviation support battalion in the 3rd army div in Hanau Germany won honorable mention for his Short poem desert winds. Whelan used the helmet in a 10-foot-deep diving tank where he also practice cutting a log under water.
