Apr two Strong earthquakes rocked Northern California on saturday the larger registering 6.9 on the Richter scale. Rock slides closed roads Power lines were downed and a House was knocked off its foundation. There were no reports of injuries in either quake although authorities received numerous Calls from shaken residents. The quakes were Felt As far away As Sacramento 275 Miles to the Southeast and Eugene Ore., about 180 Miles Northeast. The first quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale and struck at 12 29 ., according to the the . Geological Survey in Golden Colo. It was entered in a wilderness area near shelter Cove about 40 Miles South of Eureka. The second quake hit at 3 17  And was entered in the Pacific about 65 Miles West of Crescent City the Survey said. Crescent City is a coastal town about 20 Miles South of the Oregon state line. Most damage appeared to have come from the first quake although the second was More than 10 times stronger. Small Rock slides blocked a Rural paved Road near Garberville about 15 Miles East of shelter Cove said Humboldt county sheriffs Deputy Floyd Stokes. The 4-hour operation went smoothly and the new heart is an excellent match doctors at Oregon health sciences University Hospital said.
