Its strength was masked by the pervasive dryness of the air Over the Region. Forecasts for tuesday said the disturbance could act like a Chameleon producing areas of heavy rain while pivoting East toward the Central Mississippi Valley and tapping relatively humid air from the Atlantic and the deep South. High level Energy streaking East ahead of the disturbance was expected to work in tandem with the appalachians whose sloping terrain could augment the lifting of surface air to produce More than 2 inches of rain in parts of the smokes of Tennessee and the mountains of Southwest Virginia. Heavy rain was predicted to possibly form near Brasstown Bald in the mountains of Northern Georgia with the Brunt of the rain falling later in the Day and tuesday night. The breadth of the Rainy area was expected to be relatively narrow about 200 Miles at its widest Span. On tuesday night this Cigar shaped area of heavy rain could expand Northeast enveloping the mountains of Pennsylvania and rapidly devouring Central new York. The slightest change in the strength of the disturbance or the direction of High level steering winds could cause the Axis of heaviest rain to shift a bit East or West. At any rate rain of varying intensities could develop Over most of the Northeast by this morning save for portions of Maine where an area of High pressure would give ground grudgingly. The Southern flank of a Long cold front associated with the disturbance could be a focus for heavy thunderstorms in the Western Gulf coast states. In the Southwest scattered thunderstorms could roam the Region including parts of Southern California.
