This past week in be heard Over and Over that the . Army in Europe could not release the itinerary of the equal Opportunity team visiting Germany. The publicity advised individuals to Call their local command Structure to determine if and when the team was visiting their area. Each morning i have read with interest the previous Day s schedule of the six member team. Yesterday i came into work with the morning edition of the stars and stripes. Two of my coworkers were trying to locate the team. I gladly turned Over my paper so they could get information they needed to track Down the team. They called the command office the Deputy command office the Deputy sub Community command office the to office a the list goes on. No one provided the needed information or had the location where my co workers could get the information. This morning i read that while those individuals Here in Hanau were trying to track Down a team member and no one knew anything about them a team member was 12 minutes away in a Hanau sub Community. Now How is that for the Down trickling of information is the . Army in Europe supportive of the teams Mission when it in essence has subjugated Access to the team if we cannot track Down the ones we need to speak with How will the issues be made known our commands appear not to know what to do with the Calls. Yet the military Public in Europe is told to Call the command. Seems a Little lacking to me. Gen. Crosbie e. Saint May not be the one who made the decision but he is the one who did not Brief his commanders. It is he who must take the blame for this debacle. A Susan c. Watts Hanau Germany thoughts on turtles so now the teenage mutant ninja turtles Are part of some nefarious a White conspiracy to subjugate Blacks. Not a comical matter. Obviously 1 am not nearly As astute As the writer. For some reason i find it totally innocent that a mutated Rhino Crous would be dark Gray and a mutated wart hog Brown. Silly me. I never dreamed these images were actually designed to make minority children drop out of school and become criminals. Perhaps the writers should have made them Pink and Lavender. Hah that would just make the turtles part of the conspiracy against women and homosexuals would t it As for the a dialect Quot these creatures use it sounds a whole lot More like a caricature of South Philly italian Amer ican amp la Rocky than any so called a Black dialect Quot in be heard. I am certainly glad that the writer has made his son Safe from the noisome scheme. In the future i m sure his son will thank him for saving him from his Youthful innocence. A master sgt. Faron Hall Augsburg Germany a close Coleman Cavern i be made an observation concerning the draw Down of troops in Germany i m sure in a not the Only one who has noticed the closing of some very Nice military posts As we see this every night on our televisions. Many of these posts Are very modern and by most standards very Nice. The same cannot be said for Coleman Cavern in Mannheim. This Cavern is a cesspool compared with what we have been turning Over to the germans. 1 understand Why the germans done to want the place. It is neglected run Down next to a Busy autobahn the Barracks Are so old and in such need of repair that it would be cheaper to level the place and rebuild from the ground up. For those soldiers who live on a Grunt Row a it is a dismal place indeed. What really irks me is the Mountain of compost the locals have placed at our rear Gate. It stinks constantly but in the summer the stench blows right into the dining facility. In a sure the Cost of moving this Mountain of cow dung would in itself Stop the germans from wanting Coleman Cavern. Why with All the millions of dollars spent and much of it recently the troops be moved to a newer modern Post and let Coleman Cavern be closed a Start sgt. Clifton l. Life goes on and things change a pm aware of that. However As we know things Don t always change for the Best and in this Case it has been for the worst. My father used to be in the marines so i know drugs and alcohol have always been problems for soldiers but at least there was disciplinary action for those who abused them. In my husbands company a Law has been passed that enables soldiers to consume alcohol with no limitation. Many of the gis i met before this were already alcoholics whether or not they admitted it or Well on their Way. This is not a life the army should wish to Lead its men into a at least i Hope not. Another Law passed in my husbands company was that which allows women in the Barracks at any time As Long As they re out by 5 in the morning. This by far. Is the worst. The soldiers done to give a Damn about lowered rank or articles 15. Most of them Are single anyway with no one to support and nothing else to spend their Money on but alcohol snacks clothes and entertainment. There Are going to be cases of adultery and rape with much More frequency. Wait soon enough the army will have matters in its hands that could have been avoided. Again i stress the Point on discipline. The army Isnit being serious enough when it comes to dealing with unruly soldiers. Do something More than give them articles 15 or lowering their rank. How about keeping them on a Short Leash for a period of time As punishment take away earned privileges. Keep them on a sort of probation. No one likes to be kept too close an Eye on. I can almost guarantee the amount of problems will decrease. Be Tough with these men when it comes to discipline. Heaven knows they need it. Speaking of heaven a lets get Back letters to the editor on the right path. There Are some things the army just should t mess with a god soldiers Well being and a lady a place. So lets keep the women out of the Barracks a limit on alcohol consumption a Good Elace with god and a firm disciplinary and. A Gloria Jean Flores Schweinfurt Germany a Wall Between races my letter is directed in general to All service personnel and specifically to the writers comments on a a it a a Black thing you would t i am White not the Issue and i did see both the front and Back of the to shirt in question. Though not mentioned there is also a picture of Nelson Mandela next to those of Malcolm x and or. King. Yes these Are Black leaders who a stood up for Black people Quot and human rights but there Are now and have been in the past Many heroes for those same ideas a More than can be listed on one to shirt. Do you truly believe that it was the intent of Martin Luther King or. To make or direct his messages As a a Black things no Way. Was it the message of Malcolm a no. How about Ziggy mar Ley and his music again no. And if it Wasny to their message to the world then what is the message that you Are saying by wearing that shirt or by stating a i am trying to promote Harmony to those that understand do you mean Black people Only and antagonize those that done to the message is Clear this to shirt is putting a Wall Between races. It sure does no to promote racial Harmony. In no Way am i saying that we live in a perfect society or that we All be proud of our heritage but i am saying that the a a intended message on the to shirt As 1 understand it to be is poorly communicated with its Choice of words. It is definitely a step backward when the Arthur Fletcher report Clarence Thomas nomination and other current Day issues demand big Steps Forward. I understand All too Well. Alfred j.
