First of All when Malcolm x spoke on separation it was in response to a racist society that showed no propensity whatsoever toward integration. The author considers Malcolm a a Leader of the Black muslims a a poor role Model because he opposed civil rights activities in the �?T60s and advocated separation of the races. An educated response to each of these accusations is required since the author did not at All seem to be educated concerning historical fact As it relates to this particular african american. First of All Malcolm x was not the Leader of the nation of islam Black muslims. At that time Elijah Muhammed was the Leader. Malcolm x was merely an outspoken member of the nation of islam. A thorough examination of the literature would have revealed As Well that there were other members of the nation of islam who were also outspoken. Malcolm a personality however inspired african americans and inflamed european Macri cans thus his popularity skyrocketed quite a bit above the others. Second the author states that Malcolm x opposed civil rights activities. The author was quite general about his accusation indicating his Lack of knowledge in this area. Malcolm x did not wholeheartedly endorse non violent protests because these same demonstrations Only led to angry violent attacks by european american civilians and police. These non violent demonstrators were not greeted by non violence. Demonstrators were bludgeoned spat upon slapped kicked choked beaten lynched and often burned. Malcolm a in one of his earliest speeches merely questioned the logic of a peaceful demonstration Quot because of its danger to african american citizens. At the time he Felt that european Ameri cans were so full of hate that peaceful demonstration would be ineffective. The author accuses Malcolm x of advocating separation of the races. It is True that at one time in his life Malcolm advocated separation of the races. However a dramatic change in Malcolm took place when he made his pilgrimage to Mecca. He was overwhelmed to find other europeans who were interacting with people of african descent in a civilized manner without hatred malice or condescension. He realized that these people were truly capable of measuring others by the a Content of their  during this pilgrimage Malcolm x changed his name to a Tel Hajj Malik Al Shabazz a indicating a dramatic change in philosophy. He returned to America no longer advocating racial separation or supporting the philosophy that a Whites were  he began to speak about his realizations and at that Point support from the nation of islam decreased. As his philosophy began to converge More with the philosophy of Martin Luther King jr., his voice was silenced by assassins. African american separatists expressed extreme anger toward Malcolm x before his death. It is this kind of ignorance that perpetuates racism and intolerance.
