Life in the Barracks can be the pits. In most cases you live in a Small room with at least one Roommate if not More. You share a Small bathroom latrine with dozens of others As Well As the laundry facilities which arc constantly being used or broken. Then you re constantly harassed by your leaders to make your run Down Barracks look like a Palace. I could go on and on but i think you see my Point. These changes Are for better Quality of life for soldiers. Do you really think the change in the policy about alcohol was about consumption of it could be but actually the policy is directed to How much and or what kind of alcohol the Barracks soldiers can have in their rooms. Does that mean they will abuse alcohol some will but the Point Here is that no one should be Able to say to anyone what kind and or How much alcohol they can have. While its True that some units Overlook some transgressions transgressors i believe that most units still try to maintain discipline and order. A Randy f. Lasalle Mannheim Germany a too Quick to judge the writer of a get on right path a and others who do not support a More pleasant atmosphere for single or unaccompanied soldiers living in Barracks should allow this system a Chance to work before criticizing it. I am not a single Soldier but i once lived in the Barracks and i find it absurd that someone who apparently has never lived this lifestyle can denounce these changes. The Barracks of the past Are gloomy a place that could Only be considered As a spot to sleep. This new system is much like the Way airmen Are treated. I Haven to heard of All these great problems in the air Force so Why can t it work in the army Are they better than us should we live under the impression that because we soldiers swore into the army we can expect not to be treated like adults a spec. William e. Seagroves Mainz Germany Laws Haven t changed in response to the letter a get on the right path the army has not deleted the Ucma nor has it been changed. The army Barracks have simply become the soldiers Home and that is the Way it should be. One has sacrificed an awful lot just by volunteering to be a Soldier Why continue to carry that sacrifice into the Soldier living quarters. As far As soldiers not a giving a Damn about loss of rank More nonsense. I have yet to meet a Soldier who honestly did t care about losing rank and was t chartered from the army. As far As what a Soldier spends his her Money on the last time i checked my Les leave and earning statement i earned every Penny and then some. And last How about punishment along with most article 15s come extra duty and certain restrictions. What More do you want the discipline in the army far outweighs that of our civilian counterpart and i admit it must in order to maintain an effective fighting Force. The army May have Given the Soldier More a a Freedom on his her off time but rape is Stilt rape drunk on duty is still drunk on duty and conduct unbecoming of a Soldier is still conduct unbecoming of a Soldier. The army has not changed the Ucma it has simply made an attempt at allowing soldiers to live with a Little bit of Independence. If a person is constantly a a Ridden As you suggest that person is less Likely to mature into someone who is capable of making his or her own decisions. Making the Barracks the soldiers Home is the Best morale Booster the army has done in my seven years. A sgt. Live or tape delayed a tape delayed or live a that is the question whether a tis nobler in my House to suffer the slings and arrows of Afna a outrageous programming decisions or to take arms against a sea of Grade a movies and by opposing end them Quot yes even those Many years ago in Denmark Hamlet suffered from Afna a coverage of College football or Lack thereof. He longed to be stationed in Italy where games were shown live by an enlightened seb. He too was outraged when an broadcast baseball simultaneously in television and radio leaving Only seb to broadcast a game Between the no. 1 and no. 10 ranked College football teams. Seb. Italy Italy. Home of the Renaissance a a a Vinci Michelangelo Verdi Vivaldi Fattucini calzone live College football. An. Home of the Brady Bunch. Its no wonder under the circumstances that his father died Ophelia went mad and Hamlet himself suffered torment and melancholy. Those of us who enjoyed Afna a excellent sports coverage in years past must also now suffer from programming decisions apparently made by a broadcast vocational school dropout. And of How each saturday morning 1 doth Pray that heavenly winds will carry forthwith seb signals to my Home Here in the cold Gray Hills and forests of Germany where an broadcasts a must give us pause there a the signal that makes calamity of so Long Tell us an on nov. 16 when no. 1 Florida state meets no. 2 Miami will you even condescend to show the game live taped or otherwise or will we get simultaneous to radio coverage of the Brady Bunch a and by a live broadcast of College football to say we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to when exposed to an a tis a consummation devoutly to be a master sgt. Joseph c. Blaylock Leitheim Germany a article obscures facts 1 have several concerns about the article the stars and stripes reprinted from the los Angeles times on sept. Letters to the editor 26. Sam Fulwood Iii presents an interesting article which if True will cause the most dramatic change in the army since desegregation. Unfortunately the article obscures required facts necessary to Analyse the Force reduction objectively considering the logic of the article essential data is missing . The total population of those affected. Without that information the Impact cannot be accurately gauged. Its ironic that the author would leave out key information regarding the subject group Black soldiers. That is the article provides the total hispanic and asian military populations. It also includes the numbers of those groups Dod will Cut As part of the 25 percent Force reduction. On the other hand the article provides Only the percentage of Black americans that Are in the military and army. Omitted from the article were the population figures a 213,150 derived from other sources a that a will Cut the 110,000 Black soldiers from. From the article i can determine that roughly 28 percent in both the hispanic and asian military populations will lose their jobs. Without the population figures no such analysis is possible for the proposed Black Soldier reduction. Could it be that the figures if included would reveal an underlying imbalance in the reduction process or our system if Fulwood is right 52 percent of All Black soldiers would lose their jobs careers. Another fact excluded from the article is the potential Impact of the draw Down on White soldiers. With the sketchy data presented and some calculation the reduction of White soldiers could be As Low As 13 percent. The facts arrayed in this article hide the 52 percent reduction of Black soldiers As part of a 25 percent Force reduction. If Fulwood a article is Correct we will see the most fundamental change in the ethnic composition of the army since desegregation. Such drastic changes require the participation of All americans especially those most affected by the reduction. Actions less direct appear to be deceptive and Are not worthy of the great country which we represent.
