As i pondered the senselessness of it All i began to realize something was very wrong i realized that not one of the people in that restaurant returned Hennard a fire. Not one. Why did no to someone shoot Back my guess is that none of them was armed a just As anti handgun advocates would have it. If some of those had exercised their second amendment right to Bear arms and had the Means to shoot Back at Hennard How Many would still be alive today Twenty ten five one it became very apparent to me that this is the world that we will end up with if anti firearms advocates get their Way people cowering on the floor looking into the barrel of a madman a gun while he pulls the trigger. A Joel e. Foster Raf Lakenheath England a a Young soldiers degraded this letter is in response to the letter a get on right writer degrades every Young Soldier by limiting his or her sense of responsibility by saying he or she is Only interested in alcohol snacks clothing and entertainment. It May Surprise the writer to know that there Are soldiers concerned with savings investments education and sound moral character. Perhaps the few soldiers she s encountered just responded to her condescending attitude. Should we go Back to bed checks seven Day duty weeks commanders consent for marriage and children if so then her husband better be an e-8 or above. A sgt. 1st class Gary g. Yates Karlstedt German get to know Germany being a nine year Veteran of Berlin there Are a few things that really bother me. These Are people who make no attempt to get to know Germany because they Don t want to be Here. Fair enough but you Are Here so Why not make the Best of it another is comments made by people about no programs or not being Able to meet germans. This is simply not the Case. I work in the Community relations Branch of the Public affairs office. I am the coordinator for the Berlin chapter of the Kontak club. Kontak is a Ger Man american organization found throughout Germany. There Are some 65 clubs to the Best of my knowledge so Odds Are there is one near you. There is always room for More advertising yet when we do advertise people done to bother to read the fliers or listen to the interviews. An does not do interviews and stories for its health it is to inform you about what is available. We Are trying to offer you an alternative to being a Barracks rat or bar Hopper. If you Are not interested Fine. But maybe your spouse or one of the soldiers under you would be. A person can never have too much knowledge. If you want to meet germans or just get out of the Barracks we have a program for you. If we failed to inform you on local activities they Are there so Call your local take the initiative it s your free time. In Berlin besides Kontak we have a sponsorship program where single soldiers or families Are adopted by a German family. The spokesman spokeswoman for America program allows a Soldier to go to a German High school English class to Tell students about America no Dallas stereotypes describe the soldiers reasons for joining the army and answer a million other questions. There Are also German clubs like initiative Berlin Usa. Your local Public affairs office Likely has other types of German american programs or can help you find one you like. Please whatever you do done to waste the opportunities you have being stationed Here because on vacation you May not have the Money and you wont have As much time. Europe is Only going to get More expensive. A Kyle j. Lamson Berlini editor s note a i letters from readers expresion their viewpoints Are published daily in this space. All letters must be signed. However i do not agree that they should not be held accountable for their past actions. A that happened so Many years ago it does no to Why does no to it he was an adult and is responsible for his actions. Often when a person does something wrong and gets away with it it becomes easier for that person to do it again. A Brenda k. Allen Butzbach Germany a chop of for braves this in response to the article on a Stop the chop a concerning the Atlanta braves baseball team and its fans doing the a Tomahawk chop and chanting India like during the games. Please give me a break. All this protesting is a direct result of the Success that the braves have had this year. Where were the protesters last year or in previous years when the braves were finishing in the basement when the team was not winning the nickname was not that offensive but now that they Are it is suddenly offensive. The Only Way to avoid this situation in the future is to rename every professional and College team in the country so that the team name is not offensive. When one group feels offended a source of mail trouble i have been Reading Many complaints of delayed mail of All types which i believe to be justified. I have been a user of the military mail system for about 50 years. During world War ii in the South Pacific we were receiving the a mail letters in some instances in fewer than 10 Days. I am a firm believer in the primary Mission. I received a letter on oct. 19 mailed from the East coast and postmarked sept. 23. The complaints to the Apo system in my opinion though Are misguided. It is not the fault of the Apo system. The postmasters and their assigned personnel do everything in their Power to get the mail sorted and out to the recipient. The problem lies in logistics transportation where mail is pelleted. I done to know just where or How the delay is caused however i believe it is caused somewhere along the line of logistics transportation. A Randall s. Keller Izmir Turkey a Hills charges matter a recent writer asked what is the big Deal if Clarence Thomas had committed the acts he was accused of. First of All in order to sit on the highest court of our nation one should be above reproach. By no Means does that mean that one must be perfect however morals do come into play Here. If professor Hills allegations were True a that he often pressured her to Date him and spoke of his own sexual prowess and of the Many perverted acts e enjoyed seeing then morally and professionally he would be severely tacking. 1 to answer your question a does it make him a less effective appellate judge a of course. If the allegations were True Thomas desire for pornography would be so deeply rooted within him that he had talked about it at his work place. Would you want him judging a Case Between you a Man and a woman he finds extremely sexy do you think his mind would be on the facts or on her bust size do you really believe someone with such a perverse Hobby would be fair and non pre Judi to anyone. When one group you must try your Best to Stop the offensive behaviour. This would certainly do that but at the same time it would take All the fun out of sports. And Isnit that what sports is supposed to be fun taking it beyond that ruins it All. A Gerard a. Fortier Kirch Gons Germany a a a plus Side of Barracks this is in response to the letter concerning the new policies in the Barracks. What this dependent needs to realize is that those of us who live in the Barracks Are grown adults whether or not we Are married. Yes there Are a a Good and a a bad soldiers just As there Are a a Good and a bad Quot people everywhere. You done to discriminate against the Many because of the few. For years the army has discriminated against single soldiers who Call the Barracks Home. One problem those of us in the Barracks never cause is spouse and child abuse. Maybe she would like to ban soldiers from getting married to eliminate Domestic abuse and to get on the a right i am a 28-year-old woman and i live in the Barracks. I am not an alcoholic nor am i Well on my Waynor am i a rapist adulterer or a Soldier who does no to care about disciplinary action. The policies in the army or Lack thereof Are not going to cause me to change my lifestyle. As far As allowing overnight guests what concerns this woman i am Well aware of what a Man and woman usually do together throughout a night but it is not the place of the army or anyone else to dictate my social life. Most of my fellow Barracks dwellers Are mature responsible adults. Many of us constructively pass our time budget our Money wisely Lead Hill lying social lives and Welcome the changes. And As for god yes i agree too Many people neglect their Faith but it is not my Mission nor yours nor the army a to save souls. If you Are a Christian you May want to reconsider the example set by the lord judge not lest be be judged. A Caroline j. Bougie Giessen Germany pen pals i am 30 Maaia old and my Hobby a a Reading dancing and listening to gospel music. A Ester Dannie 18 Daffodil Avenue Kingston 13 Jamaica.
